Saturn Metals Unveils Robust Gold Continuity at Apollo Hill with Strong Drilling
Saturn Metals reports strong assay results from its Apollo Hill Gold Project, reinforcing the deposit’s continuity and supporting its heap leach development strategy. An interim resource upgrade is imminent, with extensive drilling ongoing.
- Significant thick and higher-grade gold intercepts from 50 drill holes
- Interim resource upgrade for Apollo Hill expected next month
- Drilling supports bulk tonnage heap leach development strategy
- Further 25,000m drilling planned for first half of 2025
- Apollo Hill Mineral Resource currently at 1.84 million ounces gold
Strong Drill Results Reinforce Apollo Hill’s Potential
Saturn Metals Limited (ASX: STN) has released a compelling update on its flagship Apollo Hill Gold Project near Leonora, Western Australia. The company reported assay results from 50 reverse circulation (RC) drill holes completed last year, highlighting thick and consistent gold mineralisation that underpins the deposit’s robust nature. These results bolster confidence in Saturn’s heap leach development strategy, aimed at unlocking value from this large tonnage, low-strip open pit deposit.
Among the standout intercepts are 53 metres at 1.08 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 128 metres depth, including a higher-grade 16 metres at 3.02 g/t, and 29 metres at 1.69 g/t from 164 metres, with a 5-metre section grading 8.94 g/t. These wide zones of mineralisation demonstrate both continuity and localised higher-grade shoots, which are critical for economic extraction and project viability.
Resource Upgrade and Development Pathway
Saturn is nearing completion of an interim resource upgrade for Apollo Hill, expected to be released early next month. This update will incorporate the latest drilling results and is a precursor to a more comprehensive resource estimate targeted for the second quarter of 2025. The upgraded resource will feed directly into a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) scheduled for completion later this year, which aims to define the economic parameters and development pathway for the project.
Currently, Apollo Hill hosts a Mineral Resource of 105 million tonnes at 0.54 g/t gold for 1.84 million ounces, positioning it as a significant gold asset in the prolific Leonora region. The deposit’s metallurgy is favourable for heap leach processing, a lower-cost extraction method suitable for bulk tonnage deposits with oxide and transitional ore zones.
Ongoing Drilling and Exploration Momentum
Drilling operations have resumed on site with an aggressive program planned, including an additional 25,000 metres of RC drilling in the first half of 2025. This will focus on extending mineralisation along strike and at depth, as well as upgrading resource classifications. Assays remain pending for 38 holes totaling 8,200 metres, which could further enhance the resource base and project economics.
Saturn’s Managing Director Ian Bamborough expressed optimism about the deposit’s trajectory, noting the comprehensive nature of the current drill program and the strong continuity of mineralisation. The company’s strategy to leverage the heap leach process aligns with the deposit’s characteristics and regional infrastructure advantages, potentially enabling a streamlined development timeline.
Strategic Positioning in Western Australia’s Goldfields
Apollo Hill is strategically located approximately 60 kilometres southeast of Leonora, within a well-established gold mining district hosting multiple major operations. The project benefits from existing infrastructure and proximity to other significant gold deposits, enhancing its attractiveness for development.
Beyond Apollo Hill, Saturn also holds an option to earn an 85% interest in the West Wyalong Project in New South Wales, targeting high-grade vein gold mineralisation. However, Apollo Hill remains the company’s primary focus given its scale and development potential.
Bottom Line?
With a resource upgrade imminent and extensive drilling underway, Apollo Hill is poised to define Saturn Metals’ next growth chapter.
Questions in the middle?
- How will the upcoming interim resource upgrade impact Apollo Hill’s classification and overall ounces?
- What are the expected timelines and key milestones for the Pre-Feasibility Study completion?
- Could pending assay results and ongoing drilling reveal higher-grade zones that materially improve project economics?
