Exploration Program Commences
Belararox Limited (ASX: BRX) has officially kicked off its 2025 exploration campaign at the Kalahari Copper Belt Project (KCB) in Botswana, following its acquisition of the project in July 2024. The initial six-week field program is focused on detailed geological mapping and soil sampling aimed at refining copper targets within this highly prospective sediment-hosted copper-silver belt.
Strategic Geological Insights
The company’s Principal Geoscientist, Dr. Jacques Batumike, has led a comprehensive review of the project’s geology, confirming the presence of key mineralisation controls such as the D'Kar/Ngwako Pan contact zones. These contacts are known to host significant copper deposits in the region, including the nearby producing Motheo and Boseto mines operated by Sandfire Resources, and MMG Limited’s Khoemacau operation.
Reinterpretation of existing geophysical data, including magnetics, gravity, and audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) surveys, has revealed extensions of these critical geological structures into Belararox’s tenements. This provides a compelling basis for the company’s exploration strategy, which aims to identify and prioritise drill targets along these prospective contacts.
Comprehensive Survey and Sampling Plans
The current field program includes validation of regolith mapping derived from Sentinel-2 and ASTER satellite data, alongside a planned soil sampling campaign covering approximately 4,560 samples across eight of the fourteen tenements. This will help delineate surface geochemical anomalies and refine the geological framework.
Complementing the geochemical work, Belararox plans to conduct an extensive electromagnetic (EM) survey spanning over 2,000 kilometers across three priority tenements (PL2743, PL773, and PL0085). The EM data will be critical in defining conductive zones that may indicate sulphide mineralisation, a hallmark of sediment-hosted copper deposits.
Pathway to Drilling and Discovery
Following the interpretation of soil geochemistry and EM survey results, Belararox intends to select four to five high-priority targets for drill testing in mid-2025. The proposed drilling program, estimated at around 2,000 meters, aims to test the continuity and grade of mineralisation beneath the Kalahari cover, which varies in thickness from less than 10 meters to over 120 meters in some areas.
Managing Director Arvind Misra emphasised the strategic fit of the KCB project within the company’s portfolio, highlighting the combination of a focused copper exploration approach and a proven technical team operating in a globally significant copper belt. He expressed optimism about the potential for significant discoveries that could position Belararox as a key player in the region.
