Tanami Gold Strikes 268 g/t Gold at Historic Jims Mine, Eyes 2025 Drilling
Tanami Gold NL reports exceptional high-grade gold intercepts from its recent drilling at the historic Jims Gold Mine, reinforcing the potential of the Central Tanami Project and setting the stage for expanded exploration in 2025.
- 3.80 metres at 268.34 g/t gold intercepted at Jims Gold Mine
- Four-hole Reverse Circulation Pre-Collar - Diamond Core Tail drilling completed
- Additional significant intercepts between 1.69 g/t and 3.79 g/t gold over substantial widths
- North Limb Air Core drilling yielded limited results, with only isolated low-grade intercepts
- Further drilling planned to resume in May 2025 targeting extensions of mineralisation
Historic Jims Gold Mine Delivers Exceptional Grades
Tanami Gold NL (ASX: TAM) has announced striking results from its 2024 drilling campaign at the historic Jims Gold Mine, part of the Central Tanami Project (CTP) Joint Venture with Northern Star Resources Limited. The highlight was a spectacular intercept of 3.80 metres grading 268.34 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 317 metres depth in drill hole JPRCD0007, underscoring the high-grade nature of mineralisation in this region.
The drilling program comprised four Reverse Circulation (RC) pre-collar holes followed by Diamond Core (DD) tails, totalling 1,712.5 metres. The campaign targeted a northerly trending mineralised corridor within the Jims deposit, yielding several other noteworthy intercepts including 11.96 metres at 2.34 g/t and 11.45 metres at 2.24 g/t gold in hole JPRCD0004, and multiple intervals exceeding 3 g/t gold over widths up to 10.79 metres in hole JPRCD0005.
Geological Context and Mineralisation Insights
Jims Gold Mine is situated approximately 23 kilometres southwest of the Central Tanami Mill site on Mineral Lease MLS168. The mineralisation is hosted within pillow and undifferentiated basalt units, structurally controlled by a north-south trending fault system. The recent drilling has refined understanding of the deposit’s geometry, indicating a shallow northerly plunge of mineralisation along a structure extending over a kilometre.
The main ore zone at Jims varies in thickness from 15 to 25 metres true width, with some areas expanding up to 60 metres, and extends approximately 300 metres along strike and down to 250 metres below surface. The high-grade intercepts from the 2024 program provide valuable data to support resource delineation and future mine planning.
Mixed Outcomes from North Limb Air Core Drilling
In parallel, a 7,266-metre Air Core (AC) drilling program was completed at the North Limb target, located about 5 kilometres north of the Molech gold camp. Despite extensive coverage with 126 holes, assay results were largely disappointing, returning only two isolated low-grade intercepts above 0.10 g/t gold. This suggests that the North Limb area requires further geological assessment before committing to more intensive drilling.
Looking Ahead: 2025 Exploration Plans
Tanami Gold and Northern Star’s Central Tanami Project Joint Venture is actively reviewing these results to refine exploration strategies. Encouraged by the high-grade intercepts at Jims, the partners are planning to resume drilling activities in May 2025, focusing on extensions of the mineralised corridor and other promising targets within the 2,108 square kilometre tenement holding.
Final assays remain pending for other key targets including the Ripcord Gold Deposit and the Groundrush-Ripcord Link, with results expected to further inform the project’s development trajectory.
Chairman Arthur Dew emphasised the significance of these findings, noting that the exceptional grades at Jims reinforce the Central Tanami Project’s potential to deliver economically viable gold resources. The joint venture’s systematic approach to exploration and resource definition continues to advance the project towards potential mining operations.
Bottom Line?
Tanami Gold’s breakthrough intercepts at Jims set a high bar for 2025 exploration, with market eyes keenly watching upcoming assay results.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the pending assays from Ripcord and Groundrush-Ripcord Link targets reveal similar high-grade mineralisation?
- How will the disappointing North Limb results influence the joint venture’s exploration focus and budget allocation?
- What are the implications of the Jims high-grade intercepts for potential resource upgrades and mine development timelines?
