Strategic Licensing Agreement Unveiled
PARKD Ltd (ASX: PKD), a specialist in modular building solutions, has formalised a significant five-year exclusive licensing agreement with Fielders Steel Roofing, a division of BlueScope Steel Limited (ASX: BSL). This deal grants Fielders the exclusive rights to manufacture, market, and sell PARKD’s patented metal decking support bracket (MDSB®) and metal deck support system (MDSS®) within Australia.
The agreement follows over two years of rigorous engineering validation, including proof-of-concept projects that demonstrated the MDSB® system’s compatibility with Fielders’ SlimDek210® structural decking product. Approximately 6,000 MDSB® units and 7,000 square meters of SlimDek210® were deployed in these trials, confirming the system’s performance and safety credentials.
Expanding Horizons Beyond Australia
Beyond the Australian market, Fielders has secured exclusive first rights to negotiate licensing for additional international territories, including the United States, New Zealand, Indonesia, Japan, India, and Canada. These regions have been identified as promising growth markets for the combined engineered solution, potentially positioning PARKD’s technology on a global stage.
The licensing arrangement includes a royalty fee structure based on sales volume, aligning both companies’ incentives to maximise market penetration and commercial success. While immediate revenue impact for PARKD is not anticipated, the agreement lays the groundwork for future income streams contingent on market adoption.
Innovative Construction Solution with Sustainability Edge
The MDSB® and MDSS® system represents an evolutionary step in construction technology, particularly for car park and commercial structures. By eliminating the need for intermediate propping during construction and enabling offsite prefabrication, the system enhances safety, productivity, and cost efficiency. It also supports sustainability goals by reducing material waste and labour requirements, aligning with government and private sector priorities.
PARKD’s Managing Director, Peter McUtchen, emphasised the transformative potential of the technology, highlighting its simplicity and ingenuity as key to unlocking improvements in construction safety and sustainability. Fielders’ National Sales, Marketing and Innovation Manager, Matt Lloyde, echoed this sentiment, noting the strategic fit of PARKD’s IP with Fielders’ sustainable steel solutions portfolio.
Looking Ahead
With the licensing agreement in place, both companies are preparing promotional materials and a marketing strategy targeted for completion in the second half of FY25. Commercial exploitation of the combined engineered solution is expected to commence in FY26, potentially opening new avenues for PARKD’s IP and expanding Fielders’ product offering.
The partnership marks a significant milestone for PARKD, leveraging BlueScope’s extensive market presence and Fielders’ industry expertise to accelerate adoption of its innovative construction system. However, the ultimate commercial success will depend on market uptake and the ability to convert opportunities into sustained sales.
Bottom Line?
This exclusive licence deal sets the stage for PARKD’s technology to reshape construction markets, but commercial traction remains the critical next hurdle.
Questions in the middle?
- How quickly will Fielders convert the licence into meaningful sales and revenue for PARKD?
- What are the timelines and terms for potential international licence agreements in the Optional Territories?
- How will market adoption of the MDSB® system impact competitive dynamics in modular construction?
