Firetail Resources (ASX: FTL) has announced a significant advancement in its exploration efforts at the Skyline Copper Project in Newfoundland, Canada, following the completion of the first modern airborne electromagnetic (EM) survey over the northern half of the project area. The Heli EM survey, conducted in late 2024, has delineated multiple substantial EM conductors that have not yet been drill tested, opening new avenues for exploration in a region dormant since the 1960s.

Five New Priority Targets Identified

The survey identified five new target areas, with the Veyron Target standing out due to its two modelled EM plates each extending 500 meters in strike length and 700 meters in depth, starting approximately 120 meters below surface. These plates exhibit conductivity responses comparable to the massive copper-zinc sulphide mineralisation historically mined at the nearby York Harbour Mine, suggesting a strong potential for economic mineralisation.

Additional targets, Countach, Cayman, and Maranello Zones, are located along the western contact of the ophiolite sequence, a geological setting analogous to the York Harbour Mine sequence but on the opposing limb of the fold. These zones present multiple discrete EM conductors that warrant further geological mapping, geochemical sampling, and geophysical surveys.

Integration of Petrophysics and Ground Surveys

Firetail has integrated petrophysical data derived from high-grade diamond drill core samples with the EM survey results, finding a strong correlation between the conductivity of the EM plates and the known mineralisation signatures. Ground-based EM surveys are now prioritised to refine the geometry and extent of these conductors, enabling more precise drill targeting. Building on the recent land acquisition that expanded the prospective mineralised horizon from 16km to 25km, Firetail plans to extend the airborne EM survey in the second quarter of 2025 to cover an additional 9km of prospective volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) strike.
