How Civmec’s A$285M Contract Win Fuels Port and Rare Earths Growth

Civmec Strengthens Order Book with Major Contract Wins

Civmec Limited has announced a significant boost to its order book with new contract awards and extensions valued at approximately A$285 million. These contracts span critical infrastructure projects in materials handling, rare earths processing, and maintenance services, underscoring Civmec’s growing footprint across Australia’s resource and industrial sectors.

Port Waratah Shiploader Project and Refurbishment

At the heart of the announcement is the award to design, fabricate, and install a new shiploader at Port Waratah’s Kooragang Terminal, a key asset in the Hunter Region’s coal export operations. Civmec’s in-house engineering and manufacturing teams will oversee the project, which includes removal of the existing shiploader and commissioning of the new unit. The project is expected to generate over 100 specialised jobs and significant subcontractor opportunities, with delivery targeted for 2028.

Complementing this, Civmec secured a refurbishment contract to extend the operational life of an existing shiploader at Port Waratah through 2025. This maintenance work involves structural strengthening, mechanical replacements, and surface treatments, reinforcing Civmec’s unique position as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) capable of delivering integrated sustainment solutions.

Advancing Rare Earths Infrastructure at Eneabba

Further diversifying its portfolio, Civmec has been awarded civil works for Iluka Resources’ rare earth refinery at Eneabba, Western Australia. This contract involves the design, manufacture, and construction of tanks essential for processing rare earth oxides, positioning Australia as a strategic hub in the global electrification supply chain. The Henderson manufacturing facility will produce 30 tanks, which will then be transported for onsite assembly and installation, with civil concrete works expected to complete in 2026.

Maintenance Services Expansion

Reflecting a strategic focus on service growth, Civmec has secured over A$40 million in maintenance contracts across Port Hedland and Gladstone. This expansion highlights the company’s commitment to supporting ongoing operational needs of its clients and leveraging its integrated capabilities in maintenance, instrumentation, and surface treatment services.

Collectively, these contract awards and extensions demonstrate Civmec’s robust tendering activity and reinforce its commitment to developing domestic capabilities in engineering and construction.
