Lion’s Strategic Investment in Koonenberry
Lion Selection Group Limited (ASX: LSX) has announced a $1 million investment in Koonenberry Gold’s (ASX: KNB) recent $5 million capital raising. This move increases Lion’s holding in Koonenberry to approximately 6.8%, reinforcing its confidence in the junior explorer’s recent progress and future potential.
Encouraging Drilling Results at Enmore
The impetus for Lion’s increased commitment stems from Koonenberry’s standout performance in 2025, particularly at the Enmore project in Northern New South Wales. Drilling has revealed substantial gold mineralisation, including a notable intersection of 172.9 metres grading 2.07 grams per tonne gold, with a high-grade segment of 25 metres at 5.23 grams per tonne. These results validate Lion’s initial investment thesis and highlight the project’s exploration upside.
A New Target Zone Emerges
Koonenberry’s innovative approach to reinterpreting the geology at Enmore has uncovered a previously underexplored target within granite formations adjacent to sediment contacts. This new zone has demonstrated materially better mineralisation than the sediment-hosted zones drilled previously. The sheared contact zone extends over 500 metres of strike, suggesting a potentially large and thick mineralised system that remains open for expansion.
Why Lion Chose to Invest
Lion’s Managing Director, Hedley Widdup, emphasised the importance of capable management, multiple discovery opportunities, and attractive entry valuations in their investment decisions. Koonenberry met these criteria, with a strong technical team and a portfolio of promising targets. Lion’s rare move to invest at the pure exploration stage underscores their belief in Koonenberry’s potential to deliver significant value uplift through new discoveries.
Looking Ahead
This capital injection positions Koonenberry well to advance drilling and further define the Enmore target. While exploration remains inherently speculative, the early results and strategic backing from Lion suggest that Koonenberry could be on the cusp of a major breakthrough in the region’s gold exploration landscape.
Bottom Line?
Koonenberry’s evolving Enmore story, now backed by Lion’s increased stake, will be one to watch as drilling progresses.
Questions in the middle?
- How will further drilling refine the size and grade of the Enmore mineralised zone?
- What are Koonenberry’s plans for advancing other exploration targets in its portfolio?
- How might Lion’s increased stake influence Koonenberry’s strategic direction and funding?
