Peak Minerals Limited (ASX: PUA) has announced a significant expansion of its Minta Rutile Project in Cameroon, with the mineralised rutile province now covering approximately 540 square kilometres. This follows the receipt of assay results from an additional 32 drill holes spanning a newly tested 30-kilometre strike length, all confirming continuous heavy mineral (HM) mineralisation from surface to the end of each hole.
The project area itself is vast, covering over 7,000 square kilometres, with current drilling focused on just half of the initial 3,500 square kilometre target zone. The consistent presence of heavy minerals across all holes drilled to date underscores the geological continuity and scale of this discovery.
High-Grade Intercepts and Rutile Dominance
Among the standout results are intercepts such as 6.0 metres at 1.5% HM and 1.3 metres at 3.1% HM, with the initial discovery hole revealing a rutile assemblage comprising 63.2% of the heavy mineral content. This rutile dominance is particularly noteworthy given the rarity of such deposits globally. Rutile, a high-grade titanium dioxide mineral, commands a premium price and is critical for environmentally conscious industries, including pigment production and aerospace applications.
Unlike many mineral sands deposits dominated by ilmenite, which requires higher grades to match rutile’s value, Minta’s rutile-rich profile offers a significant strategic advantage. The company highlights that in-situ rutile grades above 0.5% are considered exceptional, positioning Minta as potentially only the second major rutile-dominant discovery worldwide in over seven decades.

Peak Minerals is actively progressing its exploration program, with assays pending for 303 drill holes and additional work underway to quantify the contribution from oversize rutile nuggets (+1mm), which have been visually observed but not yet fully analysed. These larger rutile particles could materially enhance the overall valuable heavy mineral grades reported.
The company is employing cost-effective hand auger drilling, a globally accepted method for mineral sands exploration, to systematically test the extensive project area. Phase 1 of the reconnaissance drilling is complete, and Phase 2 is underway, aiming to identify higher-grade zones for infill drilling and eventual resource estimation.
