The February 2025 drilling program has delivered spectacular heavy mineral (HM) concentrations, confirming the project as a major new titanium discovery hosted within heavy mineral sands.
The mineralised zone now extends approximately 3.2 kilometres by 1.8 kilometres, with high-grade heavy mineral intersections starting close to surface and spanning thick intervals. Notably, one drill hole returned an extraordinary 37 metres at 45% HM, including a peak grade of 63% HM over a 1-metre interval. Such bonanza grades are rare and underscore the deposit’s potential economic significance.
Expanding the Footprint and Quality
The recent drilling has extended the known mineralisation in all directions, north, east, south, and west, dramatically enlarging the discovery footprint. The adjacent tenement to the west, EL 6679, has not yet been drilled by Marmota but has shown 100% leucoxene mineral assemblages in tested samples, indicating high-value titanium content. This suggests the discovery area could potentially stretch to 9 kilometres in length, a substantial scale for a titanium-bearing palaeochannel deposit.
Laboratory analyses reveal the heavy mineral concentrates contain exceptionally high proportions of valuable titanium minerals such as rutile, pseudorutile, and anatase, averaging around 73% ultra-valuable content. Importantly, deleterious elements like uranium and thorium are present at extremely low concentrations, which bodes well for downstream processing and environmental considerations.
Strategic Location and Next Steps
The Muckanippie discovery benefits from proximity to key transport infrastructure, situated near both the Adelaide to Darwin and Adelaide to Perth rail lines. This logistical advantage could facilitate future development and export opportunities.
Marmota’s drilling program comprised 91 aircore holes totaling 3,272 metres, with shallow depths averaging around 36 metres, targeting near-surface mineral sands.
