Igrejinha Drilling Underway: Will Perpetual Unlock Brazil’s Next Lithium Giant?
Perpetual Resources has commenced its first-ever drilling program at the Igrejinha Lithium Project in Brazil’s renowned Lithium Valley, targeting high-grade spodumene mineralisation. Results from this initial phase are expected from July 2025.
- Maiden 1,500m reverse circulation drilling underway at Target 1 zone
- Focus on high-grade spodumene-bearing pegmatites along 1.4km corridor
- New spodumene exposures uncovered via trenching reinforce target potential
- Experienced contractor ServDrill Brazil mobilised for drilling campaign
- Assay results anticipated starting July 2025
Drilling Begins in Brazil’s Lithium Heartland
Perpetual Resources Limited (ASX – PEC) has officially kicked off its maiden drilling program at the Igrejinha Lithium Project, situated in Brazil’s Araçuaí Pegmatite District, a region widely regarded as South America’s premier hard rock lithium province. This marks a significant operational milestone for the company as it seeks to unlock the potential of its high-priority Target 1 zone.
The initial program involves approximately 1,500 metres of reverse circulation (RC) drilling, focused on a 1.4-kilometre mineralised corridor where previous geological mapping, soil geochemistry, and auger sampling have confirmed spodumene mineralisation. This corridor is believed to host high-grade spodumene-bearing pegmatites, the primary lithium-bearing mineral of interest.
New Discoveries Bolster Confidence
Recent trenching work has exposed fresh spodumene and pollucite mineralisation along the strike of the pegmatite corridor, reinforcing the prospectivity of the Target 1 area. These new surface exposures provide encouraging evidence that the mineralised system extends beyond previously known outcrops, potentially increasing the scale of the deposit.
Perpetual has engaged ServDrill Brazil, a contractor with a strong track record in the region, having recently completed successful drilling campaigns for notable lithium developers Sigma Lithium and Lithium Ionic. Their involvement adds operational confidence to the campaign.
Looking Ahead – Anticipated Results and Market Implications
The drilling program is expected to continue throughout June, with assay results from the initial holes anticipated from July 2025. These results will be critical in validating the size and grade of the spodumene mineralisation and could set the stage for further exploration and development activities.
Executive Chairman Julian Babarczy highlighted the significance of this phase, noting the combination of newly uncovered spodumene exposures and strong local support as key factors underpinning the company’s optimism. As Perpetual advances its exploration in one of the world’s most prolific lithium provinces, market watchers will be keenly observing the forthcoming assay data for signs of a substantial resource.
Bottom Line?
As drilling progresses, Perpetual’s next assay results will be pivotal in defining the future trajectory of its Brazilian lithium ambitions.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the upcoming assay results confirm high-grade spodumene mineralisation along the full 1.4km corridor?
- How might the new spodumene exposures impact the overall resource potential at Igrejinha?
- What are Perpetual’s plans for expanding drilling beyond Target 1 if results prove promising?
