Bayan Mining and Minerals Limited (ASX, BMM) has announced encouraging results from a cutting-edge satellite imagery analysis over its 100% owned Desert Star Project in California’s Mojave Desert. Using Sentinel-2 multispectral data, spectral imaging specialist Dr Neil Pendock identified multiple high-priority targets indicative of both rare earth elements (REE) and gold mineralisation.
The analysis detected key spectral minerals such as calcite, barite, hornblende, and neodymium oxide, which are commonly associated with carbonatite-related REE deposits. Simultaneously, minerals like illite and talc suggest hydrothermal alteration zones typical of gold mineralisation. Adding a novel dimension, helium gas anomalies were also mapped, providing a secondary geochemical vector for concealed mineralisation.

The Desert Star Project’s location is particularly compelling. It lies just 4.5 kilometres northeast of MP Materials’ Mountain Pass Rare Earth Mine, one of the world’s largest and highest-grade REE operations.
