Morogoro Trench Results: Up to 29% TGC Over 212m at Kumba Deposit

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

InVert Graphite’s initial trench assays at the Morogoro Project reveal wide zones of high-grade graphite, with grades reaching up to 29% Total Graphitic Carbon. The company is advancing to drilling to explore mineralisation at depth.

  • First two trenches at Kumba deposit show up to 29% TGC graphite
  • Wide mineralised zones – 212m @ 13.5% TGC and 312m @ 8.8% TGC
  • Further trench results pending from Kumba and Kasanga deposits
  • Mobilisation of reverse circulation drilling rig underway for depth testing
  • Morogoro Project strategically located with strong infrastructure access

Strong Surface Results at Morogoro

InVert Graphite Limited (ASX, IVG) has delivered promising early exploration results from its flagship Morogoro Project in Tanzania. The company reported initial trench assays from the Kumba deposit, revealing wide zones of high-grade graphite mineralisation at surface. Notably, trench TRUM23-002 returned an impressive 212 metres grading 13.5% Total Graphitic Carbon (TGC), including a 40-metre section averaging 18.5% TGC and peaking at 29%. Meanwhile, trench TRUM23-001 showed 312 metres at 8.8% TGC, with a higher-grade 30-metre interval at 12.2%.

Building on Historical Data and Early Sampling

These trench results validate previous surface grab samples and historical mapping that identified extensive graphitic schists across the Morogoro region. The project area, located about 25 kilometres south of Morogoro town and roughly 200 kilometres west of Dar es Salaam, benefits from proximity to existing rail, sealed roads, and port infrastructure; factors that enhance its development potential. The company’s field teams have completed five trenches at Kumba and three at Kasanga, with assays from the remaining trenches awaited.

Next Steps, Drilling and Resource Definition

Encouraged by these surface results, InVert is mobilising a reverse circulation (RC) drill rig to test the mineralisation at depth. Site preparations, including access track development and field camp establishment, are underway with drilling expected to commence in late July. The drilling program aims to delineate the vertical extent of the graphite zones and support future resource estimation efforts.

Strategic Corporate Transformation

InVert’s recent corporate transformation; from Dominion Minerals Limited to its current identity; has refocused the company on critical minerals exploration, with Morogoro as its flagship asset. CEO Andrew Lawson highlighted the significance of these early results as a vindication of the company’s strategic pivot and acquisition of the Tanzanian project. The high-grade graphite grades and wide mineralised intervals underscore the project’s potential to become a significant source of this critical mineral.

Outlook and Market Context

Graphite remains a vital component in battery technologies and other industrial applications, and high-grade deposits like Morogoro’s Kumba deposit are increasingly sought after. InVert’s progress towards drilling and resource definition will be closely watched by investors and industry observers, as the company advances from surface exploration to establishing a robust mineral resource base.

Bottom Line?

With high-grade graphite confirmed at surface, InVert’s upcoming drilling campaign will be pivotal in defining the Morogoro Project’s true potential.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the pending trench assays from Kumba and Kasanga confirm the continuity of high-grade graphite?
  • How extensive and economically viable will the mineralisation prove at depth once drilling results arrive?
  • What are the company’s plans for capital investment and timeline towards resource declaration and development?
