Strong Scandium Intercepts Confirmed at Currajong

Rimfire Pacific Mining has released the final batch of assay results from its pioneering scandium-focused air core drilling program at the Currajong Prospect, located in the Fifield Scandium District of New South Wales. The program, which comprised 200 holes drilled over a 3-kilometre ultramafic belt, has returned multiple strong scandium intercepts across a 1.7-kilometre strike length, reinforcing Currajong’s potential as a significant scandium resource.

Notably, approximately 25% of the holes ended in anomalous scandium concentrations, suggesting the mineralisation extends beyond the current drill depths. The scandium mineralisation is hosted within a flat-lying weathered laterite to lower saprolite zone developed over ultramafic pyroxenite rocks, consistent with regional geology known to be scandium-rich.

Strategic Context and Market Implications

Scandium is a critical metal with applications in aerospace, fuel cells, and aluminium alloys, but global supply is constrained, particularly due to recent export restrictions imposed by China, the dominant producer. Rimfire’s Managing Director, David Hutton, highlighted the strategic importance of the Fifield Scandium District as a secure, low-risk supplier for Western markets. The announcement also referenced recent US Department of Defense investment in NioCorp Developments, underscoring the geopolitical drive to diversify scandium supply chains.

Currajong lies within Rimfire’s Avondale Project, subject to an earn-in agreement with Golden Plains Resources, which has committed $2.275 million of a $7.5 million expenditure target. The robust assay results provide a strong foundation for the forthcoming maiden scandium mineral resource estimate, expected in September 2025.

Next Steps and Exploration Outlook

With all assay data now received and compiled, Rimfire has engaged an external consultancy to prepare the maiden mineral resource estimate. The company’s extensive drilling density, at nominal 100-metre centres, and the presence of multiple coherent scandium zones along the ultramafic belt, support a positive outlook for resource definition.

Further exploration potential remains, with lateral extensions open along the corridor and additional scandium anomalous pods identified to the north-northeast. The results also suggest that deeper drilling could intersect increased scandium mineralisation, given the anomalous scandium values at the end of many drill holes.
