Geophysical Remodelling Advances Llahuin Copper Porphyry Exploration

FMR Resources Limited (ASX – FMR) has delivered a compelling update on its Southern Porphyry prospect within the Llahuin Project joint venture with Southern Hemisphere Mining (ASX – SUH) in Chile. By reprocessing multiple geophysical datasets, including aeromagnetic, magnetotelluric (MT), and induced polarisation (IP) surveys, the company has delineated a coherent and robust target consistent with a large copper porphyry system.

This integrated geophysical interpretation aligns closely with surface geological mapping and re-logging of historic drillholes, which revealed alteration and mineralisation signatures typical of the upper levels of a porphyry system. Notably, the MT data highlights a strong, high-amplitude conductive anomaly at depth, suggesting a significant mineralised core awaiting confirmation.

A Telescoped Porphyry System in a Mineralised Corridor

The Southern Porphyry target sits within a 6-kilometre mineralised corridor at Llahuin, an area known to host multiple copper-gold-molybdenum porphyry centres. Fieldwork conducted in mid-2025 identified argillic alteration, silicification, and epithermal quartz veining at surface, complemented by zones of secondary copper mineralisation. These features, together with historic drillhole data showing disseminated chalcopyrite and pyrite mineralisation, suggest a telescoped system where epithermal-style alteration overlies a deeper porphyry core.

Geophysical Signatures Consistent with Global Porphyry Models

The spatial relationships between the geophysical anomalies are telling. A magnetic high to the south likely represents magnetite-bearing intrusive phases, while the MT resistivity anomaly to the north overlaps with IP low resistivity zones, indicative of altered and mineralised porphyry. Flanking chargeability anomalies on the east and west sides correspond to sulphide halos typical of porphyry systems. This configuration mirrors globally recognised models where a magnetite-rich core is surrounded by sulphide-rich zones and broad alteration halos.

FMR’s Managing Director, Oliver Kiddie, emphasised the significance of these findings – "The reprocessed geophysics gives us a much sharper and more confident set of targets at Southern Porphyry. The alignment between the magnetics, MT, and IP datasets, combined with the alteration and geochemical signatures we have mapped at surface and in historic drillholes, is compelling, and exactly what we want to see to guide Phase I drill targeting."

Next Steps – Drilling to Test the Targets

The company is finalising drill contractor engagement and completing the final drill program design incorporating these refined geophysical models. Subject to statutory approvals and site preparations, Phase I drilling is scheduled to commence early in the fourth quarter of 2025. This drilling campaign will be critical in testing the depth and extent of mineralisation suggested by the geophysical data and historic drilling.
