Bayan Mining and Minerals Limited (ASX – BMM) has announced a significant step forward in its exploration efforts at the 100% owned Bayan Springs South Project, located in the heart of Nevada’s prolific Carlin Trend. The recently completed Phase Two rock chip and soil sampling programs have delivered the highest gold grades recorded on the project to date, including an impressive 8.25 grams per tonne (g/t) gold at the East Target and 0.664 g/t at the South Target.
These results not only expand the known mineralised jasperoid zones but also confirm a strong Carlin-type geochemical signature, characterized by elevated arsenic, antimony, thallium, and mercury. Such pathfinder elements are classic indicators of Carlin-style gold mineralisation, which is renowned for hosting some of the world’s largest gold deposits.
Geochemical Footprint and Structural Controls
Systematic soil sampling across a 100-meter grid and stream sediment sampling have delineated extensive gold-anomalous corridors tightly associated with key northeast–northwest structural trends and favourable Cambrian carbonate stratigraphy. Soil assays peaked at 0.311 g/t gold, with multiple samples exceeding 0.10 g/t, reinforcing the continuity and scale of the mineralised system.
The project’s geological setting is compelling. Situated on the southern slopes of the Ruby Mountains in White Pine County, the area features a complex network of faults and thrusts that localize jasperoid alteration; a critical control on Carlin-type mineralisation. The presence of a prominent regional thrust fault and folded stratigraphy further enhances the prospectivity of the site.
Strategic Location Near Major Gold Operations
Bayan Springs South lies just 10 kilometres north of Kinross Gold Corporation’s Bald Mountain Mine, a large-scale operation with over 1.2 million ounces in probable reserves and nearly 3.3 million ounces in measured and indicated resources. This proximity to a world-class deposit provides a valuable geological analogue and underscores the potential significance of Bayan’s findings.
While the West Target area showed more subdued surface geochemical responses, the structural setting there is recognized as a favorable trap for Carlin-type mineralisation, warranting further geophysical investigation to assess subsurface potential.
Focused Portfolio Strategy
In a strategic move, Bayan Mining has withdrawn from its option to acquire the Gorge Lithium Project in Canada, signaling a clear focus on advancing its high-potential gold assets in the USA.
