Historic Gold Mining Hotspot Revealed by Advanced LiDAR

Cosmo Metals has leveraged cutting-edge LiDAR technology to redefine the exploration landscape at its Bingara Goldfield project in New South Wales. The detailed digital terrain model uncovered a 12-kilometre corridor, dubbed the Star of Bingara to Lone Hand Trend, marked by over 1,180 historic mining pits and shafts. This high-density cluster of artisanal workings underscores the area's rich gold endowment and highlights a significant underexplored opportunity.

Spring Creek, The Heart of the Trend

At the centre of this trend lies the Spring Creek prospect, where historical drilling has been sparse and shallow, covering only a fraction of the 4 to 5 kilometres of strike to the north and south. Previous drill results, including intercepts such as 6 metres at 6.43 grams per tonne gold and 6 metres at 2.97 grams per tonne, suggest the presence of a shallow, east-dipping mineralised sheet. Cosmo’s recent reconnaissance rock chip sampling has reinforced these findings, returning assays as high as 19 grams per tonne gold, validating the prospect’s potential.

Soil Anomalies and Geological Context

Historic soil sampling further supports the prospectivity of the area, revealing a strong gold-arsenic anomaly coincident with the mapped historic workings. This geochemical signature is characteristic of orogenic gold systems, which are known for their economic significance. The mineralisation is hosted within serpentinite and adjacent metasedimentary rocks along the Peel Fault suture zone, a major structural feature that controls gold distribution in the region.

Advancing Exploration with Maiden Drilling and Systematic Mapping

Cosmo Metals is actively progressing permitting for its maiden drilling campaign at Spring Creek, aiming to test the southern extensions of known mineralisation and potential feeder zones. Concurrently, the company plans systematic geological mapping and sampling along the extensive strike of the Star of Bingara to Lone Hand Trend, which remains largely untested by modern exploration methods. Additionally, follow-up work is underway at the Mt Everest-Mona volcanic massive sulphide trend, targeting copper and base metal mineralisation identified through recent UAV geophysical surveys.

Historical Data Validation and Future Potential

While historical exploration data from multiple operators dating back to the 1980s provides a valuable foundation, Cosmo is undertaking rigorous validation to align these results with current industry standards. The integration of historic data with new LiDAR and geophysical surveys positions Cosmo to refine its exploration targets effectively. The open nature of the mineralisation along strike and at depth suggests significant upside potential pending drilling results.
