Catalina Resources Launches RC Drilling to Expand Laverton Gold Zones
Catalina Resources has initiated a reverse circulation drilling program at its Laverton Gold Project, aiming to extend and refine promising gold zones within a key exploration licence area. Results are anticipated by mid-October 2025.
- RC drilling commenced targeting halo area within Laverton Project E38/3697
- 11 holes planned totaling approximately 2000 meters depth
- Focus on extending wide gold zones with previous intersections up to 28m @ 1.09g/t Au
- Drilling to test strike and depth potential along Barnicoat Shear Zone
- Results expected by mid-October 2025
Catalina Advances Laverton Gold Exploration
Catalina Resources Limited (ASX, CTN) has commenced a significant reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign at its Laverton Gold Project in Western Australia. The program targets a halo area within Exploration Licence E38/3697, aiming to build on encouraging gold intersections from earlier drilling phases.
The current drilling plan includes 11 RC holes ranging from 130 to 250 meters in depth, with a total of approximately 2000 meters to be drilled. Notably, two holes will extend to 250 meters to test the western extension of the mineralised zone, known as the 'shoot'. This approach combines both infill and step-out drilling to better define the scale and continuity of the mineralised system.
Building on Promising Gold Intersections
Previous drilling at Laverton has revealed wide gold zones, including standout intercepts such as 28 meters at 1.09 grams per tonne gold from 57 meters depth, featuring a high-grade 1-meter section at 9.69 grams per tonne. Another significant intercept recorded 18 meters at 1.16 grams per tonne gold from 126 meters, including 5 meters at 2.3 grams per tonne. These results underpin the current drilling focus on expanding and refining these zones.
The Laverton Project is strategically situated within a prolific gold district, neighboring world-class deposits like Sunrise Dam, Wallaby, and Granny Smith. The area also hosts significant nickel and rare earth element deposits, including the Mt Weld REE deposit, highlighting the region's mineral potential.
Targeting the Barnicoat Shear Zone
A key structural feature under investigation is the Barnicoat Shear Zone, a regionally significant mineralised corridor known to host several major gold deposits. The drilling program aims to test both the strike and depth potential along this shear zone, which could reveal extensions of the mineralised system and enhance the project's resource base.
Executive Director Ross Cotton emphasized the importance of this program, stating it is a critical step in advancing the Laverton Gold Project by defining the scale of the mineralised system within one of Australia’s premier gold districts.
Assay results from the drilling are expected by mid-October 2025, which will provide further clarity on the project's potential and guide subsequent exploration and development decisions.
Bottom Line?
As drilling progresses, all eyes will be on the upcoming assay results to gauge the true scale of Laverton’s gold potential.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the new drilling confirm extensions of high-grade gold zones beyond previous intercepts?
- How might results impact the overall resource estimate and project valuation?
- What are the implications for future exploration targeting along the Barnicoat Shear Zone?
