S2 Resources Expands Karbah Shear Zone Coverage by 40%, West Murchison Drilling Done

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

S2 Resources has significantly expanded its Jillewarra project area over a highly prospective gold shear zone and completed drilling at West Murchison, with assay results pending. Meanwhile, Glenlogan assays returned no significant mineralisation.

  • Jillewarra tenure expanded by 40% to cover 60 km of Karbah Shear Zone
  • West Murchison RC drilling completed, intersecting mafic intrusion with sulphides
  • Assay results from West Murchison awaited to guide next exploration steps
  • Glenlogan diamond drilling assays show no significant mineralisation
  • Projects target gold, base metals, and porphyry copper-gold systems in WA and NSW

Jillewarra Expansion Targets Proven Gold Structure

S2 Resources Ltd has taken a bold step in its exploration strategy by applying for a new exploration licence at its Jillewarra project in Western Australia. This application increases the company's coverage of the Karbah Shear Zone by approximately 40%, extending the strike length to about 60 kilometres. The Karbah Shear Zone is a well-recognised regional structure that hosts significant gold deposits, including Westgold’s Big Bell and Ramelius Resources’ Never Never mines.

Despite being concealed beneath transported cover and largely unexplored within S2’s tenure, the Karbah Shear Zone represents a compelling opportunity for gold discovery. Historical drilling in the area has been limited and sporadic, with some encouraging copper and silver intercepts that hint at either orogenic gold or volcanogenic massive sulphide systems. The new tenure application, wholly owned by S2, positions the company to systematically explore this underexplored corridor once the licence is granted, subject to native title processes.

West Murchison Drilling Completes, Assays Pending

At the West Murchison project, S2 has completed a reverse circulation drilling program targeting a 500-metre-long multi-element soil anomaly rich in copper, platinum, palladium, and gold. The seven holes drilled across two traverses intersected a substantial 100-metre-thick gabbroic intrusion containing up to 5% fine disseminated sulphides, primarily pyrite with minor chalcopyrite. These geological features are consistent with magmatic nickel-copper-PGE sulphide mineralisation, a style that has attracted significant interest in the region.

Samples from the drilling have been sent to ALS Global for assay, and results are eagerly awaited. Depending on these outcomes, S2 may pursue further geophysical surveys such as ground electromagnetic or induced polarisation to refine targets and identify zones with higher sulphide concentrations. This methodical approach underscores the company’s commitment to advancing its exploration pipeline with data-driven decisions.

Glenlogan Assays Disappoint but Inform Future Work

In New South Wales, S2 received assay results from its second diamond drill hole at the Glenlogan project, which targets porphyry copper-gold mineralisation within the Lachlan Fold Belt. The hole intersected geological features consistent with porphyry systems, including altered intrusions and carbonate-rich dykes. However, assays revealed only trace sulphides and no significant mineralisation, with the highest gold intercept being a modest 0.06 g/t over 0.3 metres.

While these results temper immediate expectations, they provide valuable geological context and help refine exploration models. S2 continues to evaluate the data and plans further work to test extensions or alternative targets within the project area.

Strategic Positioning Across Multiple Fronts

S2 Resources’ simultaneous progress across three distinct projects highlights a diversified exploration strategy. The expansion at Jillewarra taps into a proven gold-bearing structure with significant strike potential, while West Murchison’s drilling targets base metals and platinum group elements in a geologically promising setting. Glenlogan, despite recent assay setbacks, remains a prospective porphyry copper-gold target in a globally recognized mineral belt.

Each project is at a different stage of exploration, with Jillewarra awaiting licence grant and further data compilation, West Murchison poised for assay results to guide next steps, and Glenlogan undergoing evaluation of recent drilling outcomes. This multi-pronged approach balances risk and opportunity, positioning S2 to capitalize on discoveries across commodities and regions.

Bottom Line?

As S2 Resources awaits critical assay results and licence approvals, the next phase of exploration could unlock significant value across its diverse project portfolio.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the pending assays from West Murchison confirm economically viable sulphide mineralisation?
  • How soon can the Jillewarra exploration licence be granted, and what impact will native title processes have?
  • What adjustments to exploration strategy will S2 make at Glenlogan following the lack of significant assay results?
