Falun Rock Chips Hit 9,200g/t Silver as Alicanto Grows Landholding
Alicanto Minerals reports promising early-stage exploration results from its Greater Falun and Sala projects in Sweden, highlighting high-grade assays and new targets that reinforce the region's mineral potential.
- High-grade rock chip assays up to 9,200g/t silver and 8.58% zinc at Greater Falun
- New tenement acquisitions expand Greater Falun landholding to 254km²
- Historic drill intercepts at Insjön confirm copper and zinc mineralisation
- Sala Silver Project holds inferred resource of 66Moz silver equivalent
- Company progressing strategic partnerships and evaluating global acquisitions
Exploration Momentum in Bergslagen
Alicanto Minerals has delivered an encouraging update on its exploration activities across its Swedish assets, notably the Greater Falun and Sala projects. The recent field program, conducted during the northern summer, combined rock chip sampling, soil geochemical surveys, and mapping, revealing high-grade mineralisation and new targets that underscore the region’s rich mining heritage and potential.
At the Greater Falun Project, situated near the historic Falun mine which produced significant copper, gold, zinc, lead, and silver, Alicanto’s team reported rock chip assays including exceptional values such as 9,200 grams per tonne (g/t) silver, 1.65% copper, and 8.58% zinc. These results come from newly acquired tenements that have expanded the company’s landholding to 254 square kilometres, consolidating its position in this prolific mining district.
Historic Data Revisited and New Targets Identified
Complementing the surface sampling, Alicanto is reprocessing historic geophysical data and collating past drilling results at the Insjön project area, part of the Greater Falun portfolio. Historic drillholes have returned notable intercepts such as 3.55 metres at 2.29% copper and 1.7 g/t gold, confirming the presence of significant mineralisation. Preliminary soil sampling has also identified anomalous copper along a 1-kilometre strike, which remains open for further exploration.
Additional tenements like Gopen and Harmsarvet have yielded encouraging geochemical anomalies and rock chip results, including silver assays up to 1,935 g/t and zinc values exceeding 10,000 ppm. These findings highlight the underexplored nature of these areas and provide a strong foundation for follow-up work.
Sala Silver Project, A High-Grade Silver Opportunity
The Sala Silver Project, with a JORC-compliant inferred resource of 9.7 million tonnes at 214 g/t silver equivalent (approximately 66 million ounces), remains a cornerstone asset for Alicanto. The project lies within a historic silver mining district where past operations reportedly produced over 200 million ounces of silver at very high grades. Recent rock chip sampling north of the historic mine returned gold and silver values up to 5.22 g/t and 44.6 g/t respectively, prompting plans for further surface sampling and mapping.
Strategic Growth and Partnerships
Beyond exploration, Alicanto is actively engaging with potential strategic partners to advance its Swedish projects and is evaluating multiple acquisition opportunities globally. Interim Executive Chairman Ray Shorrocks emphasised the company’s commitment to enhancing project value through discovery and growth, leveraging both its expanding landholdings and the wealth of historical data now being revisited with modern techniques.
While the recent results are promising, Alicanto acknowledges that some historic data requires further validation and that soil geochemical results are preliminary pending laboratory confirmation. Nonetheless, the company’s integrated approach combining new fieldwork with historic datasets positions it well to unlock the full potential of its Swedish assets.
Bottom Line?
Alicanto’s expanding footprint and high-grade discoveries in Sweden set the stage for strategic partnerships and further exploration breakthroughs.
Questions in the middle?
- How will Alicanto prioritise follow-up drilling to confirm and expand these early-stage targets?
- What progress is being made in securing strategic partnerships to fund and develop the Swedish projects?
- How might the company’s global acquisition strategy complement its current Swedish exploration focus?
