American Uranium Launches Drilling to Expand Lo Herma Uranium Resource
American Uranium has initiated Phase 1 of a two-stage drilling campaign at its Lo Herma ISR Uranium Project in Wyoming, aiming to grow and upgrade its existing 8.57 million pound uranium resource ahead of key 2026 milestones.
- Phase 1 drilling commenced targeting resource expansion at Lo Herma
- Current resource base stands at 8.57 million pounds of uranium
- Drilling permit allows up to 121 holes totaling 37,500 meters
- Interim Mineral Resource Estimate update expected early 2026
- Phase 2 infill drilling planned for Q1 2026 to increase resource confidence
Drilling Campaign Underway at Lo Herma
American Uranium Limited (ASX – AMU) has officially begun Phase 1 of its resource development drilling campaign at the Lo Herma ISR Uranium Project, located in Wyoming's prolific Powder River Basin. This initial phase focuses on expanding the project's current mineral resource, which stands at 8.57 million pounds of uranium, through approximately 50 drill holes covering around 15,000 meters.
The company’s CEO, Bruce Lane, expressed optimism about the campaign, highlighting its significance in advancing Lo Herma as a near-term, low-cost in-situ recovery (ISR) uranium project. The drilling targets known mineralised rollfronts primarily north of the proposed Mine Units 1 and 2, aiming to grow the resource base ahead of an interim Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) update expected in early 2026.
Strategic Two-Phase Approach
The program is structured in two phases. Following the current resource expansion drilling, Phase 2 is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026 and will involve approximately 71 infill drill holes totaling 22,500 meters. This phase aims to increase the proportion of Indicated and Measured resource categories, thereby enhancing confidence in the resource ahead of a planned Scoping Study update in the second quarter of 2026.
The drilling permit granted to American Uranium allows for up to 121 holes and 37,500 meters of drilling, covering both phases and targeting the proposed mining areas. This comprehensive approach underscores the company’s commitment to methodically upgrading and expanding its resource base while preparing for subsequent economic evaluations.
Positioning Lo Herma Among Wyoming’s ISR Projects
Lo Herma is positioned as one of the few new ISR uranium projects in the United States with near-term development potential. Bruce Lane noted that the project aims to demonstrate economic viability comparable to other Wyoming ISR projects, such as Ur-Energy’s Shirley Basin. Given the growing interest in domestic uranium supply, Lo Herma’s advancement could be timely for the sector.
Technical oversight is provided by Doug Beahm of BRS Engineering, whose extensive experience in uranium exploration and mining in the Western US lends credibility to the resource estimates and drilling program. The company has confirmed that all material assumptions underpinning previous resource estimates remain valid.
Looking Ahead
With drilling underway and key milestones set for early and mid-2026, American Uranium is poised to deliver important updates that could reshape the valuation and development trajectory of the Lo Herma project. Investors and industry watchers will be keenly awaiting the interim MRE update and subsequent Scoping Study results to assess the project’s economic potential and strategic fit within the uranium market.
Bottom Line?
Lo Herma’s drilling campaign marks a pivotal step toward unlocking its full uranium potential amid rising demand for domestic supply.
Questions in the middle?
- How will the interim Mineral Resource Estimate impact project valuation?
- What are the expected timelines and costs for advancing to production?
- How does Lo Herma’s resource quality and economics compare to peer ISR projects?
