Strategic Capital Injection

Ballard Mining Limited (ASX, BM1) has successfully secured firm commitments to raise approximately $20.6 million through a placement of 37.4 million shares priced at $0.55 each. This price represents an 11.1% premium to the last trading day prior to the announcement, signaling strong investor confidence. The placement was led by Aurenne Group Holdings Pty Ltd, which will become a significant new shareholder with a 9.6% stake in Ballard.

In addition, Ballard’s Chairman, Simon Lill, intends to participate in a separate placement worth around $0.2 million, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. The funds raised, combined with existing cash reserves, will be directed towards advancing exploration and development activities at the fully permitted Mt Ida Gold Project in Western Australia.

Expanding the Resource Base

Alongside the capital raise, Ballard announced a new October 2025 Exploration Target for the Mt Ida Project, estimated between 11.8 and 14.6 million tonnes grading 2.6 to 3.9 grams per tonne of gold. This target is separate from and additional to the current Mineral Resource Estimate of 1.1 million ounces at 3.3 g/t gold.

The Exploration Target is conceptual and based on geological data, including deeper drilling results that suggest mineralisation persists well below existing deposits. Encouraging assay results over several kilometres of strike and to depths of approximately 120 metres underpin this target, which, if confirmed, could significantly increase the project’s gold inventory.

Focused Drilling and Development Plans

Ballard has outlined an aggressive drilling program to test key prospects within the Mt Ida Project, notably the Baldock and Timoni deposits. The Baldock deposit, currently estimated at 7 million tonnes grading 4.1 g/t gold for 930,000 ounces, will undergo infill and deeper drilling to explore mineralisation down to 1,000 metres. Similarly, the Timoni deposit, historically mined for 265,000 ounces at a high grade of 16.8 g/t, will be tested below and adjacent to historical workings.

These programs will be supported by geophysical surveys, including an electromagnetic survey planned for November 2025, to refine drilling targets. The company also plans to continue metallurgical and geotechnical studies to de-risk the project ahead of potential development.

Strategic Partnership and Market Position

Aurenne’s investment is particularly notable given its proximity to Mt Ida, operating multiple open pits and a processing plant just 8 kilometres away. This strategic partnership could facilitate operational synergies and shared infrastructure opportunities as Ballard advances its project.

The placement was managed by Bell Potter Securities and Argonaut Securities as joint lead managers, with Thomson Geer providing legal advice. Ballard’s strong balance sheet and expanded exploration target position the company well to unlock further value at Mt Ida.

Bottom Line?

Ballard’s fresh capital and expanded exploration ambitions set the stage for a pivotal year of drilling results that could reshape the Mt Ida project’s future.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will upcoming drilling confirm the October 2025 Exploration Target as a formal Mineral Resource?
  • How will Aurenne’s strategic involvement influence Ballard’s operational and development plans?
  • What are the timelines and milestones for the planned metallurgical and geotechnical studies?
