Historic Gold Potential Reignited

Uvre Limited (ASX, UVA) has taken a significant step forward in its New Zealand gold exploration strategy by securing a Prospecting Permit for the Invincible Gold Project, located in the renowned Otago Goldfields on New Zealand’s South Island. This 164.3 square kilometre project area encompasses the historic Invincible gold mine and the Glenorchy tungsten mines, both of which boast a rich legacy of high-grade mineral production dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Invincible gold mine is particularly notable for its historic average gold grades of approximately 30 grams per tonne, a figure that stands out even by today’s standards. Despite this, the site has not seen any modern exploration, leaving a considerable gap in understanding its full potential with contemporary geological and technological methods.

Geological Promise in a Proven Gold Belt

Uvre’s technical team highlights that the Invincible Project shares key geological features with some of the Otago region’s most prolific gold deposits, including OceanaGold’s Macraes mine and Santana Minerals’ Bendigo-Ophir deposit. Both of these nearby projects are known for their bulk tonnage gold deposits with discrete high-grade zones, suggesting that Invincible could host similar mineralisation patterns.

Moreover, the project area is prospective not only for orogenic gold but also for tungsten mineralisation, a critical mineral on New Zealand’s strategic list. This dual potential adds a compelling dimension to Uvre’s exploration ambitions.

Strategic Exploration Plans Unfold

Following the permit grant, Uvre is poised to commence exploration activities in late November 2025, focusing initially on stream sampling and geological mapping to identify mineralised shear zones around the historic mine workings. This groundwork will lay the foundation for a maiden drilling program scheduled for the first half of 2026, aimed at testing the subsurface extent and grade continuity of the mineralisation.

Simultaneously, Uvre is advancing exploration at its Oturehua Project, home to the historic Golden Progress mine, where recent rock chip samples have returned encouraging gold grades up to 12.1 grams per tonne. These efforts underscore Uvre’s aggressive brownfields exploration approach across its New Zealand portfolio, targeting known high-grade mineralised systems with the potential for significant resource growth.

Uvre’s management, backed by a team with a strong track record in exploration success, is leveraging these historic assets to unlock new value. The company’s dual listing on the ASX and NZX provides it with a broad investor base keen on exposure to high-potential gold projects in a stable jurisdiction.
