Lindian Breaks Ground on Tipume Camp, Paving Way for Rare Earths Production

A Milestone in Rare Earths Development

Lindian Resources Limited (ASX – LIN) has officially commenced construction of the Tipume accommodation village at its flagship Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi. This development marks a significant transition from planning to active delivery, underscoring Lindian’s commitment to advancing the project towards production.

Named “Tipume,” meaning "let’s rest" in the local Chichewa language, the camp is more than just a housing facility. It represents a strategic investment in workforce welfare, designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and modern environment for up to 90 personnel. Facilities will include air-conditioned, fully furnished rooms with televisions, a gym, recreation areas, a mess hall, and landscaped precincts, all aimed at fostering a productive and supportive living space for the teams driving Kangankunde forward.

Construction Progress and Timeline

Initial site preparation activities such as roadworks, bush clearing, and earthworks have been completed. The current phase involves foundational works including subgrade and base filling, installation of wearing courses, and drainage controls. Civil construction of the camp facilities is scheduled to begin mid-December 2025, with full completion anticipated in the first quarter of 2026.

Project oversight is being managed by Lindian’s owners’ team, with Apex International contracted to deliver the camp as a turnkey development. This approach ensures streamlined execution and adherence to quality and safety standards, critical for maintaining project momentum.

Strategic Context and Funding

The Tipume Camp construction follows Lindian’s recent Final Investment Decision for Stage 1 of Kangankunde, backed by a robust $91.5 million institutional placement and a strategic partnership with Iluka Resources Ltd. These financial commitments have fully funded the project’s early construction phase, reinforcing confidence in Kangankunde’s viability even amid fluctuating rare earth prices.

Kangankunde is positioned as one of the world’s most promising rare earth deposits, with a premium monazite concentrate expected to be produced at low operating costs. The project benefits from strong local support, established infrastructure, and all necessary approvals, setting the stage for Lindian to become a significant player in the critical minerals sector.
