Murga Drilling Progress Poses Key Test for Rimfire’s Scandium Ambitions

Rimfire Pacific Mining has reported steady progress in its air core drilling campaign at the Murga Exploration Target, part of its Fifield scandium project in central New South Wales. To date, 54 holes have been completed, covering 1,562 metres, with the program ongoing. The drilling has intersected a variety of weathered rock types, notably ultramafic pyroxenite, which is considered a primary host for scandium mineralisation in the region.

Samples from three batches, totaling 749 drill samples, have been sent to ALS Pty Ltd’s laboratory in Orange, NSW, with first assay results anticipated by mid-January 2026. These results will be critical in confirming the presence and grade of scandium mineralisation, which remains conceptual at this stage.

Strategic Significance of the Murga Target

The Murga Exploration Target was defined based on aeromagnetic data and reconnaissance drilling in 2024, outlining a potential 100 to 200 million tonnes of rock grading between 100 to 200 parts per million scandium. If the ongoing drilling successfully converts this target into a formal mineral resource, it could substantially increase Rimfire’s scandium inventory, which currently stands at 5,449 tonnes of scandium metal (equivalent to 8,333 tonnes of scandium oxide) across its Melrose, Murga North, and Currajong deposits.

Rimfire’s Managing Director, David Hutton, expressed optimism about the program, highlighting the encouraging rock types encountered and the company’s confidence in adding scale and grade to its resource base. The maiden mineral resource estimate for Murga is expected in the March 2026 quarter, a key milestone that could enhance Rimfire’s position in the growing scandium market.

Next Steps and Broader Exploration Plans

Following completion of the Murga drilling program, Rimfire plans to deploy its rig to the Rabbit Trap Scandium Project, which it wholly owns. This will mark the first-ever drilling of several scandium-prospective magnetic anomalies identified at Rabbit Trap, potentially opening a new front in Rimfire’s scandium exploration efforts.

The company has also reaffirmed that there have been no material changes to the assumptions or technical parameters underpinning its previous resource estimates, maintaining continuity and confidence in its resource reporting.

Technical and Regulatory Compliance

The announcement includes detailed JORC-compliant reporting on sampling techniques, drilling methods, and quality control procedures. Rimfire has ensured rigorous sample handling and data verification protocols, with all samples double-bagged and delivered directly to the laboratory. The company also confirmed that the tenement is in good standing, with all exploration activities conducted under appropriate regulatory approvals.
