A Significant Step in Uranium Exploration
Global Uranium and Enrichment Limited (ASX – GUE) has announced the successful completion of an extensive 2025 drill program at its flagship Pine Ridge Uranium Project in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin. The campaign comprised 114 drill holes totaling 38,000 metres, confirming the presence of widespread uranium mineralisation across multiple zones within three major sandstone packages.
The Powder River Basin is a well-known uranium district in the United States, hosting several active and historical uranium operations. Pine Ridge’s proximity, approximately 15 kilometres, to Cameco’s Smith Ranch Mill, one of the largest licensed uranium processing facilities in the country, adds strategic value to the project’s development potential.
Drilling Results Highlight Multiple Mineralised Horizons
The drill program successfully delineated at least 25 mineralised roll fronts within stacked sandstone units of the Tertiary Ft. Union Formation. These roll fronts are epigenetic uranium deposits typically amenable to in-situ recovery (ISR) mining methods, which are less invasive and more cost-effective than traditional mining.
Noteworthy assay results from the program include intercepts such as 2.6 metres at 0.101% U3O8 and 2.0 metres at 0.092% U3O8, with higher-grade intervals within these zones reaching up to 0.132% U3O8. These grades, while modest compared to some global uranium deposits, are significant within the context of ISR operations and the Powder River Basin’s geology.
Geological Insights and Future Potential
The mineralisation occurs in two major sandstone units at depths ranging from 200 to 400 metres, which appear geologically and hydrologically isolated, an important factor for ISR feasibility. Interestingly, mineralisation in the southwestern portion of the project is hosted in a stratigraphically lower sandstone package than that in the eastern portion, suggesting additional exploration targets and resource upside.
Global Uranium’s Managing Director, Andrew Ferrier, emphasised the continuity of the mineralisation and the justification for further assessment. The company plans to analyse the extensive dataset from this program and is considering additional drilling in 2026 to refine resource estimates and better understand the deposit’s characteristics.
