Historic High-Grade Copper Targets Rediscovered

Lincoln Minerals Limited (ASX – LML) has revealed promising historic copper targets at its Southern Eyre Project in South Australia, following a comprehensive review of legacy data. The company identified 41 rock chip samples from the late 1980s with copper grades reaching as high as 11.1% and gold up to 0.6 grams per tonne. These results, drawn from an area previously overlooked for copper exploration, highlight the untapped potential of the Southern Eyre region.

The Southern Eyre Project, located approximately 130 kilometres south of Lincoln’s Minbrie Project, has historically seen exploration focused on iron ore and graphite, leaving copper and base metals underexplored. The recent review has brought to light copper prospects associated with Banded Iron Formation and dolomite adjacent to the Kalinjala Shear Zone, a geological setting comparable to that of Minbrie.

Minbrie Project – A Copper Corridor with Untapped Potential

Lincoln’s primary exploration focus remains the Minbrie Project, where the company controls a 20-kilometre prospective corridor for copper and base metals. Historic drilling over a 7-kilometre strike has confirmed widespread mineralisation, including a standout intercept at Eagle Ridge – 29.5 metres grading 0.8% copper, 7.5% lead, 1.9% zinc, and 9 grams per tonne silver. Notably, this mineralisation has not been effectively followed up, with approximately 1.7 kilometres of strike remaining untested.

The Minbrie Project’s broader 17-kilometre prospective stratigraphy offers further exploration upside. Lincoln is methodically re-logging and re-assaying historic drill core to identify additional zones of significant mineralisation. This approach aims to build a clearer picture of a district-scale copper system with the potential for a major discovery.

Strategic Exploration Plans for 2026

Looking ahead, Lincoln plans targeted mapping and surface sampling at Southern Eyre to refine drill targets. At Minbrie, wide-spaced air core drilling along the 17-kilometre strike will seek to pinpoint areas with the highest discovery potential. The company also intends to prioritize diamond drilling at Eagle Ridge and other key targets identified through its ongoing programs.

Lincoln’s CEO, Chris Wilcox, emphasised the significance of these findings – “By applying our learnings from Minbrie, Lincoln has identified historic high-grade copper and gold surface samples in a comparable geological setting to Minbrie within the Southern Eyre Project. This strengthens the copper prospectivity of the Eyre Peninsula while also demonstrating the potential for gold.”

While historic assay data from the 1980s lacks modern quality assurance and detailed sample metadata, Lincoln is committed to verifying these results with contemporary techniques. The company’s strategic focus on copper discovery in South Australia aligns with the region’s reputation as a globally significant copper province, hosting world-class deposits within the Gawler Craton.
