Rimfire Pacific Mining has announced promising initial assay results from its recent air core drilling program at the Murga Exploration Target, located in the heart of Australia’s Fifield scandium district. The drilling, conducted in late 2025, returned multiple broad zones of scandium mineralisation, with intercepts reaching up to 45 metres in thickness and grades peaking at 280ppm scandium (429ppm scandium oxide).

These results reinforce the potential of Murga as a significant scandium deposit. The standout intercepts include 21 metres at 204ppm scandium from 12 metres depth, and 24 metres at 160ppm scandium from just 1 metre below surface. Such broad zones of mineralisation are encouraging for the company’s goal of upgrading the current Exploration Target to a formal Mineral Resource.

Strategic Location and Geological Context

Murga lies just 4 kilometres south of Sunrise Energy Metals’ Syerston Scandium Deposit, within a region widely recognised as Australia’s scandium hotspot. The deposit features a shallow, flat-lying laterite and saprolite blanket over ultramafic pyroxenite rocks, which are known primary sources of scandium in the district. Rimfire’s drilling has identified two types of mineralisation – a near-surface clay-dominant laterite with higher scandium grades, and a deeper saprock-hosted zone with moderate grades.

Resource Upgrade and Next Steps

With 86 air core holes drilled in the recent campaign and assays from the first three batches received, Rimfire expects the remaining results by mid-February 2026. The company has engaged H&S Consultants Pty Ltd to estimate a Mineral Resource for Murga, anticipated by the end of the March quarter. This resource upgrade could add substantially to Rimfire’s existing scandium inventory at Fifield, which currently stands at 5,449 tonnes of scandium metal (8,333 tonnes scandium oxide).

Looking ahead, Rimfire is also planning metallurgical test work under the guidance of process consultant Boyd Willis. These studies will be critical to understanding the processing characteristics of the Murga mineralisation and advancing the project towards development.

Scandium is gaining attention globally for its applications in lightweight aluminium alloys and emerging clean energy technologies. Rimfire’s expanding resource base in the Fifield district positions the company as a leading player in Australia’s scandium sector. The proximity of Murga to other significant deposits, including Syerston and Rio Tinto’s Burra, underscores the strategic importance of this region for future scandium supply.

While the Exploration Target remains conceptual until fully converted to a Mineral Resource, the broad intercepts and consistent grades provide a solid foundation for optimism. The upcoming assay results and resource estimate will be closely watched by investors and industry observers alike.
