Constellation Resources Advances Natural Hydrogen and Copper-Gold Exploration in WA

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Constellation Resources has reported promising progress in its natural hydrogen projects across Western Australia and identified a significant gold-copper anomaly at its Ularring Copper-Gold Project, setting the stage for upcoming drilling campaigns.

  • Positive CSIRO findings confirm hydrogen, helium, and natural gases in Edmund-Collier drill cores
  • Soil gas sampling and exploration to commence on two Edmund-Collier SPA-AOs pending approvals
  • Ularring Project reveals a strong 1.3km gold-copper soil anomaly ‘Chatham’ targeted for drilling
  • Exploration Incentive Scheme grant secured to support drilling at Ularring
  • Company maintains solid cash position with ongoing stakeholder engagement and approvals

Natural Hydrogen Exploration Gains Momentum

Constellation Resources Limited has provided its December 2025 quarterly update, highlighting significant strides in its natural hydrogen exploration across Western Australia's underexplored basins. The company’s portfolio spans a substantial 87,602 square kilometres across nine Special Prospecting Authorities with Acreage Options (SPA-AOs) in the Edmund-Collier, Yerrida, and Ashburton Basins. These areas represent a pioneering opportunity to explore natural hydrogen (NatH2) in a region with no prior deep drilling, positioning Constellation as a first mover in this emerging sector.

During the quarter, Constellation received encouraging results from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), which analysed diamond drill cores from the Edmund-Collier Basin. The study confirmed the presence of hydrogen, helium, methane, and ethane trapped within rock pores and fluid inclusions, suggesting these gases have been generated and migrated naturally within the basin. This discovery supports the potential for large-scale thermogenic hydrogen generation linked to organic-rich formations such as the Blue Billy and Discovery Formations.

Upcoming Exploration Activities and Stakeholder Engagement

Following these positive findings, Constellation plans to commence on-ground exploration activities this quarter on two Edmund-Collier SPA-AOs, pending final permitting and stakeholder approvals. The initial program will focus on soil gas sampling and inspecting historical mineral exploration holes for gas seepage, aiming to identify surface gas anomalies that could indicate subsurface accumulations. The company is actively engaging with native title groups, pastoralists, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth progress of these activities.

Ularring Copper-Gold Project – A New Target Emerges

In parallel, Constellation’s Ularring Copper-Gold Project in the Yilgarn Craton continues to show promise. The project covers a 24-kilometre strike along the Meenar Shear corridor, a region known for intrusion-related copper-gold deposits such as the nearby Boddington mine and Caravel Minerals’ Caravel Copper Project. The company’s recent soil sampling program identified a robust 1.3km by 0.45km gold-copper anomaly named ‘Chatham’, exhibiting elevated levels of gold, copper, silver, and other associated elements.

Importantly, the Chatham anomaly coincides with a late-time electromagnetic anomaly from historical surveys, suggesting a potential sulphide-rich target at depth. Supported by a $57,500 Exploration Incentive Scheme grant, Constellation is preparing to drill test this target within the current quarter, which could unlock significant value if successful.

Financial Position and Forward Outlook

Constellation maintains a healthy cash balance of approximately $1 million at quarter-end, with no production activities yet but ongoing investment in exploration and stakeholder engagement. The company continues to review additional opportunities in the resources sector but remains focused on advancing its natural hydrogen and copper-gold projects. While some SPA-AOs in the Ashburton Basin overlap with tenements held by Macallum New Energy’s subsidiary, no immediate activity is planned there this year.

Overall, Constellation’s December quarter report underscores its commitment to pioneering natural hydrogen exploration in Western Australia while progressing promising copper-gold targets. The upcoming drilling campaigns and continued technical collaboration with CSIRO will be critical milestones to watch.

Bottom Line?

Constellation’s next drilling results will be pivotal in validating its early hydrogen and copper-gold exploration successes and shaping its growth trajectory.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the upcoming soil gas sampling confirm commercially viable natural hydrogen accumulations?
  • How will the drilling results at the Chatham anomaly influence the valuation of the Ularring Project?
  • What impact might overlapping tenements with Macallum New Energy have on Constellation’s Ashburton Basin plans?
