Evion’s Maniry Project Gains Priority as US-Africa Trade Group Launches
Evion Group gains momentum as the US-Africa Strategic Infrastructure and Investment Working Group fosters trade, Madagascar accelerates mining permits, and Indian graphite operations deliver strong sales.
- US-Africa Strategic Infrastructure and Investment Working Group launched
- Madagascar fast-tracks mining permit approvals for priority projects
- Evion’s Maniry Graphite Project recognised as a priority
- Indian operations produce and export significant graphite volumes
- Stage 2 and Stage 3 expansions underway for expandable graphite
Strategic US-Africa Partnership Signals New Trade Opportunities
Evion Group NL (ASX, EVG) finds itself well-positioned amid a fresh wave of international cooperation between the United States and the African Union Commission (AUC). The recent establishment of the US-AUC Strategic Infrastructure and Investment Working Group (SIWG) aims to enhance trade and investment in critical minerals and infrastructure projects across Africa. This initiative underscores the growing importance of graphite and other critical minerals to US industry and global supply chains.
For Madagascar, one of Africa’s key graphite producers and Evion’s primary operating jurisdiction, this partnership offers a promising boost. The US, as Madagascar’s largest trading partner, is signalling a commitment to supporting the country’s mineral exports, which aligns well with Evion’s strategic ambitions.
Madagascar Accelerates Mining Permits for Priority Projects
In a significant regulatory development, Madagascar’s Mines Ministry has commenced the approval process for Mining and Exploitation Permits (PEs) for priority projects, including Evion’s Maniry Graphite Project. This fast-tracking of permits could reduce bureaucratic delays and accelerate project timelines, a critical factor for Evion as it seeks to capitalise on rising global demand for graphite.
Evion’s in-country team is actively engaged with government authorities to convert existing prospecting permits to full mining permits. Environmental permit applications are also progressing well, suggesting that the company is on track to meet regulatory requirements in the near term.
Robust Production and Sales from Indian Operations
Evion’s joint venture in India, Panthera Graphite Technologies, continues to deliver solid operational results. The facility produced approximately 90 tonnes of saleable expandable graphite in the December 2025 quarter, with an additional 80 tonnes in progress. Export sales to the USA and Europe generated over US$500,000 in receipts, reflecting steady demand for Evion’s products.
While routine maintenance and upgrades temporarily paused production in late 2025, these improvements are designed to support the upcoming Stage 2 development. This phase will enhance capacity but may cause intermittent production interruptions in the short term.
Expansion Plans Signal Long-Term Growth Ambitions
Beyond Stage 2, Evion is actively advancing Stage 3 of its global expansion strategy for expandable graphite operations. The company is exploring replicating its Indian facility’s commercial and proprietary advantages in new locations with high product demand. This expansion aligns with Evion’s broader vision to serve electrification markets, including battery anode manufacturers, through its integrated supply chain spanning Madagascar, India, and Europe.
Evion’s recognition by the European Union as a preferred graphite supplier further strengthens its position, offering accelerated permitting and financing opportunities. This status enhances Evion’s appeal to strategic investors and partners within the critical minerals ecosystem.
Bottom Line?
Evion’s strategic positioning and regulatory progress set the stage for accelerated growth, but permit timelines and production ramp-ups remain key watchpoints.
Questions in the middle?
- How quickly will Madagascar finalise mining and environmental permits for Maniry?
- What impact will intermittent production pauses have on near-term sales and revenue?
- Where will Evion establish its next expandable graphite facility under Stage 3 expansion?
