TMK Energy has reported a sixth straight month of rising gas production at its Gurvantes XXXV Coal Seam Gas Project in Mongolia, highlighted by a new daily record of approximately 23,800 standard cubic feet per day.
- Record daily gas production of ~23,800 scfd achieved on 21 January 2026
- January average daily gas output rose 13% to ~593 cubic metres
- LF-07 well surpasses 10,000 scfd, showing strong early performance
- Operations resilient despite harsh Mongolian winter conditions
- Further reservoir pressure tests planned to support future growth
Steady Climb in Gas Production
TMK Energy Limited has announced a sustained increase in gas production at its wholly owned Gurvantes XXXV Coal Seam Gas Project in Mongolia, marking six consecutive months of record output. On 21 January 2026, the project achieved a new daily production peak of approximately 23,800 standard cubic feet per day (scfd), representing an 18% increase over the previous record set in December.
This upward trend was further underscored by January’s average daily gas production, which climbed 13% to around 593 cubic metres per day, up from December’s 526 cubic metres. Total gas output for the month reached 18,370 cubic metres, reflecting the project’s growing operational momentum.
LF-07 Well, A Key Contributor
A significant driver behind this production surge is the LF-07 well, the most recently drilled and strategically positioned up-dip within the reservoir structure. Notably, LF-07 is the first well in the field to exceed 10,000 scfd, achieving this milestone over two days in January. Drilled using a modified mud system and operated under an updated reservoir management plan, LF-07’s performance offers a promising indicator for the potential of future wells within the Pilot Well Project.
Operational Resilience Amid Winter Challenges
Operating through Mongolia’s harsh winter, characterised by light snow and sustained sub-zero temperatures, TMK’s on-site team has demonstrated commendable resilience. Despite these challenging conditions, water production remained steady at an average of 497 barrels per day, and operational downtime was minimal, limited primarily to brief third-party power interruptions late in January.
Chief Executive Officer Dougal Ferguson highlighted the importance of maintaining continuous pumping and expressed optimism about the benefits of generating power from the gas produced onsite, which could mitigate future interruptions.
Looking Ahead, Reservoir Pressure Tests
To further underpin the project’s outlook, TMK plans to conduct additional reservoir pressure build-up tests in February. These tests will provide critical data on reservoir pressure depletion, a key metric for assessing the sustainability and future productivity of the gas field.
With six months of consistent production growth and promising early results from LF-07, TMK Energy’s Gurvantes XXXV project appears well-positioned to build on its recent successes, despite the operational challenges posed by the Mongolian winter.
Bottom Line?
TMK Energy’s steady production gains and strategic well performance set the stage for a potentially transformative year at Gurvantes.
Questions in the middle?
- How will the upcoming reservoir pressure tests influence TMK’s development plans?
- What impact will onsite power generation have on operational reliability and costs?
- Can TMK sustain this growth trajectory through Mongolia’s challenging winter months?
