Significant Resource Upgrade at Wuudagu

VBX Limited (ASX – VBX) has revealed a substantial expansion of its bauxite resource at the Wuudagu Project in northern Western Australia, with a 108% increase in the Measured and Indicated Mineral Resource Estimate. This leap stems from new discoveries at the Wuudagu D, E, and F plateaus, identified during the 2025 drilling program. The updated resource now stands at 131.9 million tonnes, boasting higher alumina content and lower silica levels compared to previous estimates, a combination that bodes well for product quality and processing efficiency.

Implications for Mine Life and Production

The resource upgrade effectively removes the previous mine life constraint of 10 years, enabling plans for an extended operation at increased mining and beneficiation rates of 8 to 9 million tonnes per annum. VBX’s Managing Director, Ryan de Franck, highlighted the significance of the thicker deposits with less overburden at Wuudagu D, E, and F, which also feature improved alumina grades averaging above 41% and silica levels around 9.6%, markedly better than the earlier Wuudagu B and C deposits.

Robust Technical Foundation

The Mineral Resource Estimate was independently prepared by SRK Consulting, led by Rodney Brown, a respected expert in lateritic bauxite deposits. The estimate is based on a comprehensive 2025 drilling campaign comprising 161 aircore holes spaced at approximately 150 by 150 metres, supported by LiDAR topographic data and rigorous geostatistical modelling. The resource is reported on an in-situ dry tonnage basis, with grades reflecting total oxide concentrations, while beneficiation is expected to further enhance product quality.

Advancing Towards Definitive Feasibility

With the resource expansion secured, VBX is progressing its Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026. Metallurgical test work continues to optimise beneficiation parameters, aiming to produce a high-quality, low-silica bauxite product suitable for both low and high-temperature alumina refining processes. Environmental approvals are also advancing, with an Environmental Review Document planned for early 2026, reflecting VBX’s commitment to responsible development in partnership with the Wunambal Gaambera Traditional Owners and local communities.

As global aluminium demand is forecast to rise sharply, driven by decarbonisation and technological innovation, VBX’s expanded Wuudagu resource positions the company to supply a critical raw material from a stable, low-sovereign risk jurisdiction. The project’s proximity to infrastructure and the coast further enhances its commercial appeal. Additional exploration targets, including the sizeable Plateau G, offer potential for further resource growth, underpinning VBX’s growth ambitions in the bauxite sector.
