Gateway Mining Limited (ASX, GML) has announced a significant step forward in its exploration efforts at the Yandal Gold Project in Western Australia with the identification of gold mineralisation at the newly named Hummer Prospect. Situated immediately west of the company’s recent Haflinger discovery, Hummer lies along the prolific Celia-Mustang trend, a region already known for its high-grade gold deposits.

The initial aircore drilling results are encouraging, with a standout intercept of 16 metres grading 1.0 grams per tonne gold from 64 metres depth, including a higher-grade 4-metre section at 2.7 grams per tonne. These early findings suggest the presence of oxide gold mineralisation associated with sheared quartz veining and oxidised sulphides, typical of the shear-hosted gold systems that characterise the Yandal Greenstone belt.

Geological Setting and Exploration Potential

The Hummer Prospect is located on a major splay shear structure branching off the primary Celia Shear Zone. This geological feature is significant because it mirrors the setting of other known high-grade gold camps nearby, such as the Horse Well Gold Camp. Magnetic imagery reveals that this splay structure extends for approximately 4 kilometres, much of which remains largely untested, presenting a substantial exploration upside.

Gateway’s Executive Chairman, Andrew Bray, highlighted the importance of the structural flexure at Hummer, which creates dilation zones favourable for gold deposition. Notably, the current drilling has yet to reach the target shear zone in fresh rock, leaving the key contact untested and indicating that the best mineralisation may still lie at depth. Historical drilling in the area was limited and often terminated prematurely in the depletion zone, missing the supergene enrichment now identified by Gateway’s program.

Expanding the Footprint

In response to these promising results, Gateway has expanded its drilling program by adding 52 additional aircore holes to infill and extend the mineralised trend both north and south of the initial intercepts. The company anticipates that further drilling, particularly in areas where the splay structure is offset by northeast-trending faults, could reveal zones of even higher-grade mineralisation due to enhanced structural dilation.

The current intercepts at Hummer bear a strong resemblance to early results from the Haflinger discovery, suggesting that Gateway may be on the periphery of a larger gold system. This systematic and methodical approach to exploration along the Celia-Mustang trend continues to yield significant results, reinforcing the potential for Gateway to delineate a major new gold resource in the Yandal region.

Financial Position Supports Aggressive Exploration

Gateway remains well capitalised to pursue its 2026 exploration plans, holding $19.4 million in cash and an additional $9.3 million in liquid ASX securities as of the December 2025 quarter. This strong financial position provides the company with the flexibility to accelerate drilling and exploration activities as results come in and the mineralised trend becomes better defined.
