Golden Gate South Discovery Opens Questions on Deposit Continuity and Depth Potential

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Resolution Minerals has announced a significant new gold discovery at its Golden Gate South prospect in Idaho, extending the known mineralised strike length beyond the established Golden Gate North deposit. Early drilling results reveal broad, near-surface gold mineralisation with promising multi-commodity potential.

  • New gold discovery confirms second mineralised shear zone at Golden Gate South
  • Broad near-surface gold mineralisation over 1.5km strike length combined with Golden Gate North
  • Key drill intercepts include 172.2m at 0.463 g/t Au and 225.5m at 0.14 g/t Au
  • All drill holes ended in mineralisation, indicating open extensions at depth
  • Tungsten mineralisation intersected, highlighting multi-commodity upside

Expanding the Golden Gate Gold System

Resolution Minerals Ltd (ASX, RML) has revealed a compelling new chapter in its Idaho-based Horse Heaven Project with the discovery of a second mineralised shear zone at the Golden Gate South prospect. This breakthrough extends the Golden Gate gold system beyond the previously defined Golden Gate North deposit, now covering a combined strike length of approximately 1.5 kilometres.

The company’s recent diamond core drilling program, comprising three holes at Golden Gate South, has delivered encouraging results. Notably, drill hole HH-GG25-009C intersected a substantial 172.2 metres grading 0.463 grams per tonne gold, including a higher-grade segment of 27.6 metres at 0.89 grams per tonne. Another hole, HH-GG25-010C, returned 225.5 metres at 0.14 grams per tonne from surface to the end of the hole, confirming broad, near-surface mineralisation. Importantly, all holes ended in mineralisation, suggesting the deposit remains open at depth and along strike.

Multi-Commodity Potential and Geological Insights

Beyond gold, the drilling intersected near-surface tungsten mineralisation in multiple shallow veins, reinforcing the project's multi-commodity potential. This is particularly relevant given the proximity to the historic Golden Gate Tungsten Mine and the identification of tungsten anomalies through soil sampling.

Geologically, the discovery at Golden Gate South is associated with a steep east-dipping sulphide-bearing shear zone, distinct yet parallel to the primary Golden Gate shear zone hosting Golden Gate North. This suggests the presence of multiple, parallel gold-bearing structures within the project area, a feature that could significantly enhance the overall resource potential.

Strategic Location and Next Steps

The Horse Heaven Project is situated in Idaho, USA, a tier-one mining jurisdiction, and lies adjacent to Perpetua Resources Corp’s Stibnite Gold Project, underscoring the strategic value of the location. Resolution’s CEO of US Operations, Craig Lindsay, highlighted the significance of the discovery, noting the rapid emergence of Golden Gate as a major gold system with mineralisation open in all directions.

Following the success of the maiden drilling campaign, Resolution plans a substantial up-scaled drill program commencing as early as May 2026. This program aims to expand the gold discoveries at both Golden Gate North and South and to establish a maiden JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate. Concurrently, metallurgical testing has begun, and the company is pursuing expanded exploration permits to broaden its drilling footprint.

Uncertainties and Exploration Challenges

While the results are promising, certain uncertainties remain. The true widths of the mineralised intervals are yet to be confirmed due to limited data on the local-scale orientation of mineralisation. Additionally, it is still unclear whether Golden Gate North and South represent a single continuous deposit or two separate but related systems. Further drilling between these prospects is planned to resolve this question.

Bottom Line?

Resolution Minerals’ Golden Gate discovery is shaping up as a significant gold system, but upcoming drilling will be critical to define its full potential.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will follow-up drilling confirm continuity between Golden Gate North and South deposits?
  • How will the multi-commodity potential, including tungsten, influence project economics?
  • What metallurgical characteristics will the initial testing reveal about ore processing?
