Gateway Mining Targets Major Gold System at Great Western

Gateway Mining Limited (ASX, GML) has announced the commencement of a substantial drilling program at its Great Western prospect, part of the broader Yandal Gold Project in Western Australia. This move follows detailed structural and lithological mapping that has revealed a highly prospective geological setting, reminiscent of some of the Eastern Goldfields’ most productive gold camps.

The company’s Executive Chairman, Andrew Bray, highlighted the significance of the findings, noting the identification of a major shear zone and a sheared dolerite contact exhibiting coherent gold-in-soil and nugget anomalies. These features, combined with the right rock types and structural deformation, suggest the potential for a large-scale gold system.

Geological Insights Fuel Optimism

The mapping work has delineated a differentiated dolerite unit extending approximately 16 kilometres in strike length, with 7 kilometres already mapped and sampled. This dolerite unit shows textural zonation and chilled margins comparable to those found in Northern Star’s Jundee and the Junction deposit in the St Ives Gold Camp; both well-known gold-producing areas.

Structural complexity is a key feature of the Great Western prospect, with multiple linking structures, multi-phase deformation, and cross-cutting features creating ample space for hydrothermal fluids that can deposit gold. The strongest gold-in-soil anomalies are concentrated along the ‘Target Shear Zone,’ a structure that splays from the nearby Horse Well Gold Camp and follows the eastern margin of the dolerite unit.

Drilling Program Designed for Flexibility and Discovery

Gateway’s upcoming drilling campaign, scheduled to begin in March 2026, will deploy two aircore rigs and one reverse circulation rig. This approach allows the company to adapt to varying ground conditions, with the reverse circulation rig replacing aircore where outcrop limits penetration. The program aims to test key soil anomalies along the sheared dolerite contact, explore textural zonation within the dolerite, and investigate linking structures and splay shears.

Importantly, the program is designed with flexibility to enable immediate infill drilling should initial results warrant it. Further drilling along the full 16-kilometre strike will be planned once northern soil sampling is completed and assay results are received.

Strong Financial Position Supports Exploration Ambitions

Gateway Mining enters this phase of exploration well capitalised, with $19.4 million in cash and an additional $9.3 million in liquid ASX securities as of the December 2025 quarter. This financial strength provides the company with the resources to pursue its exploration strategy aggressively and respond swiftly to any promising discoveries.

As Gateway embarks on this maiden drilling program at Great Western, the market will be watching closely for assay results that could validate the geological promise and potentially elevate the company’s standing in the competitive Eastern Goldfields region.
