Golden Dragon Targets 700m High-Grade Gold Trend with 3600m Drilling Program
Golden Dragon Mining has resumed drilling at its Coodardy gold target, aiming to extend a newly defined high-grade gold trend over a 700m strike in Western Australia’s Cue Gold Project. The program also initiates exploration at the promising Behring Bore target.
- Drilling recommenced at Coodardy to extend high-grade gold strike and depth
- Recent assays confirm strong grade continuity near surface within saprolite zone
- 2000m RC drilling planned at Coodardy, plus 1600m Phase 1 drilling at Behring Bore
- Golden Dragon now controls entire 700m strike length at Coodardy for first time in decades
- Behring Bore identified as a significant camp-scale target with complex geology
Exploration Momentum Builds at Coodardy
Golden Dragon Mining Ltd has reignited its drilling campaign at the Coodardy gold target, part of the larger Cue Gold Project nestled in Western Australia’s prolific Murchison goldfields. This move follows encouraging results from the initial phase of reverse circulation drilling, which intersected high-grade gold mineralisation close to the surface. The company is now focused on expanding the known mineralised footprint both along strike and at depth.
Recent drilling highlights include standout intercepts such as 8 metres at 7.3 grams per tonne gold from 20 metres depth, and 4 metres at 9.7 grams per tonne from 24 metres, demonstrating excellent grade continuity within the saprolite zone. These results underpin a newly defined high-grade gold trend stretching over 700 metres, which Golden Dragon aims to systematically test with a planned 2000 metres of follow-up drilling.
Strategic Control and Geological Insights
For the first time in many decades, Golden Dragon controls the entire strike length at Coodardy, a strategic advantage that Managing Director Simon Buswell-Smith describes as a “game changer.” The mineralisation is hosted within a flat-lying, north-plunging array of quartz veins within altered dolerite and chlorite schist, overlain by sediments and basalts. This geological setting is favourable for open-pit mining, with mineralisation currently identified in the shallow oxide zone.
Consultants Jigsaw Geoscience’s field mapping supports the interpretation of stacked, tensional quartz veins as the primary hosts of gold mineralisation. The company’s next drilling phase will test extensions of this high-grade zone to the north and south, targeting underexplored areas to expand the resource potential.
Behring Bore: A New Frontier
Alongside Coodardy, Golden Dragon has commenced Phase 1 drilling at the Behring Bore prospect, with 1600 metres planned. This target covers approximately 900 by 500 metres beneath shallow cover and is characterised by structurally complex geology involving pyritic dolerite and graphitic schists. The area is considered highly prospective for discrete, moderate east-dipping gold lodes within a broader mineralised envelope.
Behring Bore’s identification as the most promising camp-scale target within the Cue Project highlights the potential for significant new discoveries. The company’s systematic drilling approach aims to define mineralisation geometry and continuity, which remain poorly constrained due to limited previous exploration.
Broader Cue Project Potential
The Cue Project itself spans over 600 square kilometres, comprising multiple exploration licences and mining leases. It sits within a region where gold mineralisation is closely associated with major structural features such as the Big Bell Anticline and several shear zones. Large tracts of the project area remain underexplored, particularly beneath transported cover, offering considerable upside for Golden Dragon’s exploration efforts.
Completion of heritage surveys in late 2025 has cleared the way for systematic exploration across the broader project area, positioning Golden Dragon to advance its understanding and development of these gold systems.
Bottom Line?
Golden Dragon’s expanded drilling at Coodardy and new focus on Behring Bore could redefine the Cue Project’s gold potential.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the northward plunge of the high-grade zone at Coodardy extend into fresh rock with economic grades?
- How will assay results from the Behring Bore Phase 1 drilling shape the project’s exploration strategy?
- What timeline and capital plans will Golden Dragon pursue if mineralisation continuity is confirmed?
