BluGlass Wins A$190,000 Contract from TOPTICA for Advanced GaN Lasers

Strategic Partnership with TOPTICA Photonics

BluGlass Limited (ASX:BLG), an Australian pioneer in gallium nitride (GaN) laser technology, has secured a significant A$190,000 order from TOPTICA Photonics Inc, a global leader in photonics solutions. This deal marks a notable milestone for BluGlass as it supplies custom visible wavelength lasers designed for advanced photonic integrated circuits (PICs) that are central to emerging quantum technologies.

TOPTICA Photonics is a commercial member of the US Department of War’s NORDTECH Microelectronics Commons Hub, a program focused on developing next-generation quantum photonic systems. BluGlass’ lasers will support the Quantum Ultra-broadband Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (QUPICS) initiative, which aims to establish large-scale, 300mm foundry fabrication capabilities for quantum PICs covering a broad spectral range from ultraviolet through infrared.

Quantum Photonics: A Frontier for Defence and Commercial Innovation

The QUPICS program is critical for advancing quantum technologies that underpin secure communications, precision navigation in GPS-denied environments, and sophisticated computing architectures. BluGlass’ high-precision GaN lasers offer the stability and integration needed for trapped ion, neutral atom, and photonic quantum systems, which are at the forefront of quantum sensing and networking applications.

CEO Jim Haden emphasised the strategic importance of onshore capabilities in the US and allied nations, highlighting BluGlass’ role in addressing defence challenges through chip-scale photonic solutions. The company’s technology is positioned to unlock next-generation quantum systems that could redefine security and commercial technology landscapes.

Building Momentum in US Government and Industry Contracts

This order from TOPTICA complements BluGlass’ recent Year-3 extension of its CLAWS Hub contract, underscoring sustained momentum in the US government and defence sectors. BluGlass is actively converting smaller initial orders into long-term engagements, with a pipeline of US$100 million in project opportunities.

With operations spanning Australia and the US, BluGlass leverages proprietary manufacturing technology to deliver custom and volume laser diode products. Its growing reputation as a trusted supplier for critical quantum photonics challenges is reinforced by these strategic partnerships and government-backed programs.

While the current order is modest in size, it signals BluGlass’ expanding footprint in a highly specialised and strategically important market. The company’s ability to scale and secure follow-on contracts will be key to translating this momentum into sustained growth.
