How Alvo’s Touro Drilling Is Unveiling New Copper-Zinc Frontiers in Brazil
Alvo Minerals has released assay results from its 2025 drilling campaign at the Touro Prospect in Brazil, confirming significant copper and zinc mineralisation over extensive shallow strike lengths. The company is advancing exploration at nearby Esperanza and Entre Rios prospects, aiming to expand its Palma Copper-Zinc Project resource base.
- Multiple drill holes at Touro confirm copper-zinc-lead-silver-gold mineralisation
- Shallow mineralisation extends over 1km strike with consistent sulphide intercepts
- Deeper electromagnetic conductors remain untested, with follow-up drilling planned
- Drilling underway at high-priority Esperanza and Entre Rios prospects
- Palma Project hosts a JORC resource of 7.6Mt at 2.0% CuEq or 6.2% ZnEq
Exploration Progress at Touro
Alvo Minerals Limited (ASX: ALV) has provided a detailed update on its ongoing exploration activities at the Touro Prospect, part of the broader Palma Copper-Zinc Project in central Brazil. The latest assay results from four drill holes completed in 2025 confirm the presence of significant copper, zinc, lead, silver, and gold mineralisation, validating earlier visual observations of sulphide mineralisation.
Notably, hole PDT-120 returned 5.1 metres at 1.1% copper equivalent (CuEq), including a higher-grade interval of 1.8 metres at 1.9% CuEq. These results complement the initial discovery hole PDT-117, which intercepted 9.3 metres at 1.1% CuEq, including 4.7 metres at 1.7% CuEq. All drilling to date has intersected mineralised sulphides, predominantly at shallow depths, extending the known mineralised strike length to over one kilometre.
Challenges with Deeper Conductors
While shallow drilling has been successful, attempts to test the deeper, large-scale electromagnetic conductors have so far yielded narrower mineralised intercepts that do not fully explain the geophysical anomalies. Drill holes PDT-122 and PDT-127 targeted these conductors but intercepted only narrow zones of disseminated and semi-massive sulphides. Downhole electromagnetic surveys (DHEM) indicate that the main conductor lies off-hole, prompting plans for further targeted drilling once survey data is analysed.
Advancing Exploration at Esperanza and Entre Rios
In parallel with Touro, Alvo has commenced diamond drilling at the high-priority Esperanza Prospect, located near the high-grade C3 deposit within the Palma Project. Esperanza features a strong geochemical anomaly over more than one kilometre, supported by geophysical surveys that have identified multiple conductive plates near surface. The company also plans to drill the Entre Rios Prospect, approximately 12 kilometres southeast of C1, which exhibits coincident geochemical and geophysical anomalies indicative of volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralisation.
Palma Project’s Strategic Potential
The Palma Copper-Zinc Project remains a significant asset for Alvo, with a JORC 2012 Mineral Resource Estimate of 7.6 million tonnes at 2.0% CuEq or 6.2% ZnEq. The project hosts multiple deposits, including C1, C3, and C4, all open for expansion along strike and at depth. Alvo’s integrated exploration approach, combining geology, geochemistry, and geophysics, aims to systematically advance over 30 prospects within the district-scale tenure exceeding 1,000 square kilometres.
Managing Director Rob Smakman highlighted the ongoing success at Touro and the excitement around the newly targeted prospects: “Touro continues to deliver mineralised sulphides along extensive strike distances, open in all directions. Our follow-up drilling and geophysical surveys will be critical to testing the deeper conductors. Meanwhile, drilling at Esperanza and Entre Rios is underway, targeting advanced prospects with strong geological and geophysical signatures.”
Next Steps and Outlook
Alvo plans to continue drilling at Touro to better define the mineralisation and test the deeper conductors indicated by electromagnetic surveys. Assay results from recent and ongoing holes are expected in the coming weeks. Concurrently, drilling at Esperanza and Entre Rios will progress, supported by ongoing geochemical sampling and geophysical surveys across the Palma tenure. The company is also reviewing its rare earth element projects and new copper-gold targets, maintaining a broad exploration pipeline.
Bottom Line?
Alvo’s expanding footprint at Palma signals growing potential, but key deeper targets await confirmation.
Questions in the middle?
- Will forthcoming DHEM surveys clarify the position and extent of the deeper electromagnetic conductors at Touro?
- How will new assay results from Esperanza and Entre Rios influence the overall resource potential at Palma?
- What metallurgical characteristics and recoveries can be expected from the newly discovered mineralisation zones?
