Drilling Progress at Lake Johnston
Charger Metals NL has reported significant progress in its exploration efforts at the Lake Johnston Lithium and Gold Project in Western Australia. The company has completed 3,054 metres of combined diamond and reverse circulation (RC) drilling this quarter, focusing on expanding its lithium resource at Medcalf and testing extensions of the high-grade Xmas Gold Discovery.
The Medcalf Spodumene Deposit, currently estimated at 8.2 million tonnes grading 1.0% lithium oxide, is the primary target for resource upgrade. Diamond drilling is ongoing, reaching depths of up to 500 metres to test down-dip extensions of the deposit. Assay results from initial samples are awaited, which will inform an updated mineral resource estimate. Metallurgical and ore sorting test work is also planned to commence shortly, which could enhance the economic potential of the deposit.
High-Grade Gold Potential at Xmas Discovery
Meanwhile, the Xmas Gold Discovery continues to attract attention following the interception of high-grade gold mineralisation in previous drilling, including a standout intercept of 3 metres at 18 grams per tonne gold, with a peak of 41.5 grams per tonne over one metre. Recent drilling has targeted both up-dip and down-dip extensions of this mineralisation, with assays pending. The area remains under-explored, with over 2 kilometres of strike length yet to be drill tested, highlighting significant upside potential.
Supporting exploration efforts, Charger has collected an additional 420 surface soil samples on a 50 by 100-metre grid over the Xmas Gold area. These samples are currently at the laboratory awaiting analysis. The company has also engaged Southern Geoscience to enhance magnetic and terrain data interpretation, which will aid in refining drill targets.
Environmental and Regulatory Progress
Charger is advancing environmental and heritage surveys to support ongoing and future drilling programs. Flora and fauna assessments have been completed or are underway, and a drilling permit has been approved for further exploration north-west of the Xmas Gold Discovery. These steps are crucial to maintaining compliance and enabling the company to expand its exploration footprint efficiently.
Located in the Yilgarn Province, the Lake Johnston project sits within a greenstone belt that remains relatively under-explored compared to other regions. This presents a compelling opportunity for Charger to grow both its lithium and gold resources in a jurisdiction with established mining infrastructure.
Looking Ahead
With assay results and metallurgical data pending, the next few months will be pivotal for Charger Metals. Positive outcomes could significantly enhance the project's resource base and economic outlook, potentially positioning Lake Johnston as a notable player in Australia's lithium and gold sectors.
Bottom Line?
Assay results and metallurgical tests will soon reveal whether Lake Johnston’s promising drilling translates into substantial resource growth.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assay results confirm significant extensions to the Medcalf lithium resource?
- How extensive and continuous is the high-grade gold mineralisation at Xmas Discovery beyond current drill lines?
- What impact will metallurgical test work have on the economic viability of the Medcalf deposit?
