Hammer Metals reports encouraging copper and zinc mineralisation from recent drilling at its Bullrush Joint Venture and Isa Valley earn-in projects in NW Queensland, signalling potential for significant resource growth.
- Bullrush JV completes 3 diamond holes (~1,350m) with copper intercepts up to 0.40% Cu
- Alteration vectors at Bullrush suggest increasing prospectivity east and northeast
- Isa Valley RC drilling (4 holes, 1,166m) reveals elevated zinc intercepts up to 12m at 0.15% Zn
- Geochemical signatures at Isa Valley indicate proximity to SEDEX-style base metal mineralisation
- Next steps pending joint venture partner reviews and further geophysical and petrological studies
Exploration Momentum Builds at Bullrush
Hammer Metals Ltd (ASX:HMX) has delivered a promising update from its Bullrush Joint Venture with Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania, following the completion of a three-hole diamond drilling program totaling approximately 1,350 metres in November 2025. The drilling targeted transitional magnetic anomalies accompanied by elevated gravity responses, a combination often indicative of mineralised systems.
Significant copper intercepts were recorded, including 4 metres at 0.40% copper from 259 metres and additional narrower zones of copper and molybdenum mineralisation. Geological logging revealed two distinct alteration styles, regional sodium-calcium magnetite alteration and hematite-potassium feldspar alteration, both associated with copper sulphides. Importantly, alteration vectors suggest that the most prospective zones lie to the east and northeast of the latest drill holes, focusing future exploration efforts on the southern and southeastern parts of the project area.
Isa Valley Earn-In Drilling Highlights Zinc Potential
Meanwhile, Hammer’s Isa Valley earn-in project, operated by a wholly owned subsidiary of South32 Limited, completed four reverse circulation holes totaling 1,166 metres in late 2025. These holes tested a conductive and geochemically anomalous zone along the Mount Annable Fault, approximately 60 kilometres south of Mount Isa.
The drilling intersected elevated zinc mineralisation, with notable intercepts such as 12 metres at 0.15% zinc and 10 metres at 0.12% zinc. Geochemical indices, including the George Fisher and SEDEX alteration indices, point to the presence of sediment-hosted base metal mineralisation akin to the world-class Mount Isa and George Fisher deposits. South32 has commissioned further petrological studies to better understand the nature of the host rocks and their potential to host SEDEX-style mineralisation.
Strategic Partnerships and Next Steps
Both projects are currently under review by their respective joint venture partners to determine the scope and timing of follow-up exploration activities. At Bullrush, the joint venture is refining geophysical models to sharpen targeting vectors, while at Isa Valley, further geophysical surveys and petrological analyses will inform the next phase of drilling.
Hammer Metals’ Managing Director Daniel Thomas emphasised the encouraging nature of the results, highlighting the potential for both copper and zinc discoveries within these strategically located projects in the Mount Isa mining district. The company plans to integrate these findings with upcoming drilling campaigns and scoping studies scheduled for 2026, including a 3,000-metre reverse circulation program across multiple targets in the region.
With strong backing from major partners Sumitomo and South32, Hammer Metals is well positioned to advance these projects toward delineating significant mineral resources that could underpin future development.
Bottom Line?
As Hammer Metals and its partners digest these promising results, the coming months will be critical in defining the path to potential resource expansion in one of Australia’s most prolific mining districts.
Questions in the middle?
- Will further drilling at Bullrush confirm the east-northeast alteration vectors as zones of economic copper mineralisation?
- How will the petrological study at Isa Valley influence South32’s decision to proceed with the next earn-in stage?
- What impact will these exploration results have on Hammer Metals’ market valuation and joint venture ownership stakes?
