Resource Upgrade Raises Stakes: Can Majestic North Deliver on Near-Term Mining Ambitions?

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Orbminco Limited has announced a significant update to its Majestic North Gold Project resource, increasing contained gold ounces by 127% and highlighting a high-grade domain that could accelerate mining plans.

  • Updated JORC Mineral Resource Estimate of 50,300 ounces at 1.14 g/t Au
  • High-grade domain of 19,400 ounces at 2.42 g/t Au within shallow oxide mineralisation
  • Resource increase of 127% in contained gold ounces since 2020
  • Ongoing drilling targeting structural junctions for additional high-grade ounces
  • Pit optimisation, metallurgical testwork, and environmental studies underway

Resource Upgrade Highlights Majestic North's Potential

Orbminco Limited (ASX:OB1) has delivered a compelling update to its Majestic North Gold Project in Western Australia, reporting an updated JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) of approximately 50,300 ounces of gold contained within 1.38 million tonnes at an average grade of 1.14 grams per tonne. This marks a 127% increase in contained ounces compared to the previous 2020 estimate, underscoring the project's growing significance in the Eastern Goldfields region.

Notably, the resource includes a higher-grade domain of 250,000 tonnes at 2.42 g/t Au, equating to around 19,400 ounces, situated just 20 to 40 metres below surface. This shallow, supergene-enriched mineralisation is well suited to open-pit mining, offering flexibility for staged development and processing strategies.

Drilling and Geological Confidence

The updated resource incorporates results from an extensive 2025-2026 infill drilling campaign, comprising 209 reverse circulation holes totalling over 11,500 metres. This program has enhanced geological confidence by tightening drill spacing and refining the interpretation of mineralised horizons. The mineralisation is hosted within flat-lying, laterally continuous stacked horizons, controlled by intersecting north-south and east-west structural corridors.

Orbminco is now prioritising immediate drilling at four key structural junctions, which are considered highly prospective for additional high-grade gold mineralisation. These targets have not been directly tested before due to previous vertical drilling orientations, and the upcoming angled drilling is expected to provide critical insights into resource expansion potential.

Advancing Towards Development

With the project situated on a granted Mining Lease (M25/369) and mineralisation starting at shallow depths, Orbminco is progressing pit optimisation studies to translate the updated resource into a practical mining model. These studies will evaluate pit geometries, cut-off grades, and staging options under various economic scenarios, aiming to identify a low-capital, rapid development pathway consistent with the company's speed-to-market strategy.

Concurrent metallurgical testwork is underway to determine optimal processing routes, including on-site gravity concentration and toll treatment options at nearby facilities. Early indications suggest the oxide and supergene mineralisation is likely free-milling and amenable to conventional gold recovery methods.

Environmental baseline studies have commenced, with specialist consultants engaged to conduct flora and fauna surveys. The project's location on previously disturbed pastoral land with no known environmental constraints supports a smooth regulatory pathway.

Looking Ahead

Orbminco Chairman Duncan Gordon emphasised the clarity of the path from resource to production, highlighting the multiple development options presented by the high-grade zone and shallow mineralisation. The company anticipates pivotal results from ongoing drilling, pit optimisation, and metallurgical programs in the coming months, which will collectively shape the project's feasibility and investment case.

Overall, the Majestic North update positions Orbminco as a promising junior gold developer with a near-term production opportunity in a prolific Australian gold district.

Bottom Line?

As Orbminco advances drilling and optimisation, Majestic North’s true potential to deliver near-term gold production is poised for clearer definition.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the structural junction drilling confirm significant extensions to the high-grade resource?
  • How will metallurgical testwork results influence the choice of processing pathway and recovery rates?
  • What are the expected timelines for completing pit optimisation and securing environmental approvals?
