S2 Resources Uncovers Strong Gold-Antimony Anomalies at Silver Spoon

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

S2 Resources has identified significant gold-arsenic and gold-antimony soil anomalies at its Silver Spoon project in Victoria, signalling promising exploration potential near major regional mines.

  • 1 km long gold-arsenic anomaly at Crosbie 1 near granitoid intrusion
  • Multiple strong gold-antimony anomalies detected across project area
  • Project strategically located between Fosterville and Costerfield mines
  • S2 earning 80% interest by sole funding $1.2 million over 4 years
  • Ongoing infill sampling and land access negotiations underway

Initial Soil Sampling Reveals Promising Anomalies

S2 Resources Ltd has announced encouraging results from its first soil geochemical survey at the Silver Spoon project in Victoria. The survey identified a strong, cohesive gold-arsenic anomaly stretching approximately one kilometre along the margin of the Crosbie granitoid intrusion, dubbed "Crosbie 1." This anomaly features peak gold values of 122 parts per billion and arsenic concentrations up to 295 parts per million, suggesting potential for intrusive-related gold mineralisation.

Strategic Location and Geological Context

The Silver Spoon project is strategically positioned midway between two significant gold mining operations: Agnico Eagle’s Fosterville gold mine to the northwest and Alkane’s Costerfield gold-antimony mine to the southeast. The proximity to these established mines, combined with the geological setting adjacent to the Heathcote/Mt William fault zone, a known major fluid conduit, adds weight to the prospectivity of the anomalies discovered.

Broader Anomalies and Exploration Progress

Beyond the Crosbie 1 anomaly, reconnaissance roadside traverses across the project area have revealed several strong gold-antimony anomalies, with antimony levels reaching up to 76 parts per million. This gold-antimony association is particularly noteworthy given its similarity to the mineralisation style at the nearby Costerfield mine, which hosts structurally controlled stibnite-quartz reefs.

In response to these findings, S2 has commenced extensional and infill soil sampling at Crosbie 1 to better define the anomaly. Concurrently, the company is negotiating land access agreements with local landowners to facilitate further systematic sampling across other anomalous zones.

Joint Venture and Project Outlook

S2 is earning an 80% interest in the Silver Spoon project through a farm-in agreement with Valkea Resources by sole funding $1.2 million in exploration over four years. The agreement includes provisions for extensions in case of land access delays and outlines dilution and royalty terms should Valkea choose not to participate beyond the earn-in phase.

The project also includes an exploration licence application adjacent to the Fosterville Mining Lease, currently subject to competitive applications, adding an element of uncertainty to potential expansion.

Looking Ahead

While these initial soil sampling results are promising, no drilling has yet been conducted to confirm the presence of economically viable mineralisation. The ongoing infill sampling and land access negotiations will be critical next steps in advancing the project towards resource definition.

Bottom Line?

S2 Resources’ early soil sampling at Silver Spoon sets the stage for a potentially significant gold-antimony discovery, but key hurdles remain before resource confirmation.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will subsequent drilling confirm the extent and grade of mineralisation at Crosbie 1?
  • How will land access negotiations impact the pace and scope of further exploration?
  • What are the prospects for securing the adjacent competitive exploration licence application?
