Accelerate Resources Resumes Drilling at Fluffy Prospect After 30 Years

Accelerate Resources (ASX:AX8) has kicked off a 1,500m aircore drilling program at its high-priority Fluffy Prospect within the Balagundi Gold Project, marking the first drilling at this target in over three decades. The program targets extensions of historic gold mineralisation and fresh zones identified through recent geophysical and geochemical surveys.

  • First drilling at Fluffy Prospect in over 30 years
  • Historic intercepts include 45m at 1.35 g/t gold
  • New targets defined by Gradient Array Induced Polarisation and arsenic geochemistry
  • Project located near major gold mines east of Kalgoorlie
  • Assay results from current and recent drilling programs pending

Drilling Restart Targets Historic Gold Zones

Accelerate Resources has initiated a roughly 1,500-metre aircore drilling campaign at the Fluffy Prospect, part of its Balagundi Gold Project in Western Australia. This marks the first time in over 30 years that drilling has taken place at Fluffy, a site with a history of shallow gold workings and promising mineralisation. The program aims to test extensions of gold-bearing contacts beneath shallow transported cover, leveraging new geophysical and geochemical insights.

Historic Intercepts and High-Grade Surface Samples

Historical drilling at Fluffy, though limited and wide-spaced, returned noteworthy intercepts such as 45 metres at 1.35 grams per tonne (g/t) gold. Surface rock-chip sampling near the old workings has revealed high-grade gold values, with assays reaching up to 32.9 g/t. These elevated grades, combined with the presence of quartz veins and indications of a gold-sulphide association, suggest a lode-style mineralised system that warrants further investigation.

New Targets from Geophysics and Geochemistry

The current drill program is guided by recent Gradient Array Induced Polarisation (GAIP) geophysical surveys and arsenic pathfinder geochemistry, which have delineated previously untested corridors along the Catrock porphyritic dolerite contact. This integration of data has identified multiple priority targets that historical drilling failed to adequately test. Arsenic anomalies, a recognized gold pathfinder in the Eastern Goldfields, align with historic workings and extend into underexplored zones, providing fresh vectors for exploration.

This approach builds on earlier work, including the discovery of a new gold trend at Balagundi, where Accelerate Resources has been systematically expanding its understanding of the project's mineral potential. The company’s recent efforts have been documented in previous announcements, such as the new gold corridor at Balagundi, which highlighted encouraging drilling results and structural continuity in the area.

Strategic Location Near Major Gold Mines

Balagundi sits approximately 15 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie, nestled within the prolific Norseman–Wiluna Belt of the Yilgarn Craton. It lies in close proximity to Northern Star’s Kanowna Belle mine, which boasts over six million ounces of gold, and the world-renowned KCGM Super Pit, with more than 70 million ounces. Despite its prime location, Balagundi has remained underexplored, primarily due to historical private ownership and extensive shallow cover that obscured targets.

Pending Results and Next Steps

Assay results from this initial aircore drilling program, alongside those from recently completed Phase 2 reverse circulation and aircore drilling campaigns, are currently being finalised. These results will be crucial in assessing the extent and grade of mineralisation at Fluffy and across the broader Balagundi Project. The company’s CEO, Luke Meter, has expressed optimism about the prospect’s potential and the value of the new geophysical and geochemical data in guiding exploration.

Bottom Line?

The resumption of drilling at Fluffy revives a long-dormant target with historic gold grades, but the true scale and continuity of mineralisation await confirmation from imminent assay results.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the current drilling confirm the historic high-grade gold intercepts at Fluffy?
  • How might new geophysical and geochemical targets reshape the Balagundi exploration strategy?
  • Could Balagundi’s proximity to major mines accelerate development if significant resources are defined?
