Golden Dragon Advances Large-Scale Gold Targets with New Drilling at Behring Bore and Coodardy
Golden Dragon Mining has kicked off a 2100m drilling program targeting high-grade gold zones at Behring Bore and Coodardy within its Cue Gold Project. Early results confirm strong mineralisation continuity, setting the stage for resource expansion.
- 2100m RC drilling underway at Behring Bore and Coodardy
- Previous drilling confirmed high-grade gold near surface at Coodardy
- Behring Bore identified as a large-scale, complex gold system
- Focus on northern strike extensions and mineralisation geometry
- Assay results from recent drilling are pending
Drilling Resumes on Two Major Gold Targets
Golden Dragon Mining Ltd (ASX:GDR) has restarted drilling at its Behring Bore and Coodardy prospects, key components of the Cue Gold Project in Western Australia's Murchison Goldfields. The company has launched a ~2100m Reverse Circulation program aiming to delineate and expand on the high-grade gold mineralisation previously intersected near surface at Coodardy, while probing the largely untested, structurally complex Behring Bore target.
Behring Bore stands out as a camp-scale target, stretching roughly 900m by 500m beneath shallow cover. The gold mineralisation is hosted within an altered, pyritic dolerite sill, overlain by graphitic schists and situated in a geologically intricate setting near the Big Bell Anticline and major shear zones. Early drilling suggests a broad mineralised envelope punctuated by discrete, moderately east-dipping high-grade lodes, but the system remains poorly constrained due to limited bedrock exposure and wide drill spacing.
Coodardy Confirms High-Grade Continuity Near Surface
At Coodardy, recent drilling has reinforced the presence of continuous high-grade gold mineralisation within the saprolite zone. Highlighted intersections include 8m at 7.3 g/t Au from 20m and 4m at 9.7 g/t Au from 24m, embedded within broader mineralised zones. The mineralisation is hosted in flat-lying quartz veins, extending over approximately 700m strike length and plunging gently northward. This geometry supports the potential for open-pit development, contingent on further drilling and evaluation.
Golden Dragon is now targeting strike extensions to the north, areas that have seen limited previous drilling, to test the interpreted plunge of the high-grade zone into fresh rock. This approach follows a series of encouraging results from earlier campaigns, including the initial phase of drilling at Coodardy, which confirmed the high-grade trend’s continuity and extent. The company’s strategic focus on this zone aligns with its broader objective of resource expansion within the Cue Project.
Systematic Exploration to Define Mineralisation Geometry
Managing director Simon Buswell-Smith emphasised the significance of Behring Bore’s geology and scale, describing it as a compelling discovery opportunity. The current drilling program aims to systematically infill and extend the mineralisation footprint, with an emphasis on understanding the geometry and continuity of high-grade shoots within the broader system.
Alongside targeted drilling at Behring Bore and Coodardy, Golden Dragon is reviewing regional exploration targets identified through an independent targeting review that uncovered multiple high-potential priority zones. This is consistent with the company’s earlier identification of 14 high-priority targets across the Cue Project, including several with medium to high prospectivity rankings. The Cue Project’s 612.8 km2 tenure covers a fertile corridor marked by major structures such as the Big Bell Shear Zone and Cuddingwarra Shear, with large areas still under shallow cover and underexplored.
This latest drilling phase builds on the momentum generated by the company’s recent campaigns, including the follow-up RC drilling completed at advanced Behring Bore and Coodardy targets, which laid the groundwork for the current program. While assay results from the current round remain pending, the strategic focus on these two prospects underscores Golden Dragon’s commitment to advancing its flagship project.
Bottom Line?
Golden Dragon’s renewed drilling at Behring Bore and Coodardy could unlock significant resource upside, but confirmation awaits pending assay results and further geological modelling.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the pending assay results confirm the interpreted high-grade shoots at Behring Bore?
- How extensive is the northward plunge of Coodardy’s high-grade gold zone into fresh rock?
- Which regional targets within the Cue Project will emerge as priorities following the ongoing systematic exploration?
