Rimfire Validates Gold and Antimony at Windy Ridge Prospect
Rimfire Pacific Mining has confirmed significant gold and antimony mineralisation at its Windy Ridge prospect through resampling of diamond drill core dating back 40-50 years. The findings highlight a 600-metre mineralised corridor open at depth and near surface within the Broken Hill Base Metal Project.
- Resampling confirms historic gold and antimony drill intercepts
- 600m mineralised zone with gold up to 37g/t in surface samples
- Mineralisation open at depth and along strike
- Potential for high-grade zones in cross-cutting shear structures
- Company considering funding, partnerships or divestment options
Historic Core Resampling Confirms Gold and Antimony
Rimfire Pacific Mining (ASX:RIM) has breathed new life into decades-old drilling at its Windy Ridge prospect, confirming and validating gold and antimony mineralisation from diamond drill core samples originally drilled 40 to 50 years ago. The resampling effort has not only verified previous gold intercepts but also revealed antimony mineralisation that was not systematically assayed in the original programs.
Windy Ridge, situated roughly 30 kilometres south of Broken Hill within Rimfire’s 100%-owned Broken Hill Base Metal Project, hosts a 600-metre-long zone of sheared and brecciated chlorite-sericite quartz schists. Historic intercepts include notable intervals such as 36 metres at 0.93 g/t gold and 0.46% antimony from 90 metres, and 52 metres at 0.53 g/t gold from 210 metres, with multiple narrower zones exceeding 1 g/t gold.
Mineralisation Open and Surface Samples Show High Grades
Importantly, the mineralised zones remain open at depth and immediately beneath surface rock chip samples that have returned gold grades as high as 37 g/t. The prospect lies within the same geological sequence that hosts the world-renowned Broken Hill Line of Lode silver-lead-zinc deposits, adding geological credibility to the potential scale and value of the mineralisation.
Resampling of historic diamond holes AK4 and NPD-D1, drilled by CRA Exploration and Seltrust Mining Corporation respectively, confirmed gold grades consistent with original assays and identified antimony values up to 1.28% in some intervals. Additional anomalous silver, lead, and zinc were also detected, underscoring the polymetallic nature of the deposit.
Strategic Timing with Critical Minerals Focus
Rimfire’s Managing Director David Hutton highlighted the significance of antimony discovery at Windy Ridge, noting that it aligns well with the Australian Federal Government’s recent $1.2 billion Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve, which prioritises antimony among other minerals. This positions Rimfire to leverage growing interest in critical minerals alongside its high-value Fifield scandium assets.
The company is actively considering a range of commercial strategies to advance Windy Ridge and the broader Broken Hill Base Metal Project, including sole funding future exploration, partnering with other explorers, or outright divestment to maximise shareholder value.
Next Steps: Infill Drilling and Testing High-Grade Zones
Despite the promising historic intercepts, Rimfire acknowledges that previous drilling was conducted on widely spaced traverses of approximately 160 metres, insufficient to delineate potential internal high-grade shoots. Geological mapping suggests that cross-cutting shear zones may host higher-grade mineralisation, warranting infill drilling to test these targets.
Further drilling is also planned to evaluate supergene gold enrichment in weathered rocks near surface, especially beneath the high-grade rock chip samples. These efforts will be critical to defining the extent and grade continuity of the mineralisation.
This announcement follows Rimfire’s recent tripling of its Murga scandium resource, which significantly boosted its critical minerals portfolio and underscored the company’s growing footprint in strategic metals.
Bottom Line?
Windy Ridge’s confirmed gold-antimony system opens multiple pathways for Rimfire to unlock value, but drilling on tighter spacings will be key to revealing its true potential.
Questions in the middle?
- Will infill drilling confirm high-grade gold-antimony shoots within Windy Ridge’s broad mineralised zone?
- How might Rimfire’s strategic options for Windy Ridge impact its capital allocation and project focus?
- Can the company leverage government critical minerals initiatives to attract partners or funding?
