  • Soil sampling completed at Carlindie lithium project, results pending

Lightning Gold Project Nears Resource Definition

Terrain Minerals (ASX:TMX) has hit a crucial exploration milestone at its Smokebush Project’s Lightning gold prospect with the granting of Mining Lease M59/0796 and the completion of extensive drilling programs. The company is on track to deliver a maiden JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) by July 2026, a key value inflection point for the project.

The recent drilling campaign comprised 97 reverse circulation (RC) holes and 4 diamond holes totaling approximately 16,000 metres. Highlights include multiple high-grade gold intercepts such as 8 metres at 6.87 g/t from 76 metres and 7 metres at 7.08 g/t from 217 metres. Diamond drilling completed after the quarter end provided critical structural and density data, confirming continuity of mineralisation along strike and at depth. Notably, an intercept of 3.4 metres at 4.96 g/t gold, including 1 metre at 10.93 g/t, underscores the presence of higher-grade zones below surface.

The geological model at Lightning identifies two main shear-hosted structures, Lightning and Monza, with recent assays suggesting a possible third mineralised zone. This complexity indicates a larger and more intricate system than previously understood, with mineralisation open along strike and at depth. The project’s proximity to established mining operations like Capricorn Metals’ Mt Gibson and Vault Minerals’ Rothsay gold mine situates it within a prolific gold corridor.

The diamond drilling program’s successful delivery of bulk density and oriented structural data substantially de-risks the upcoming resource estimate, supporting a transition from exploration to resource definition. Mining studies are planned to run concurrently with ongoing exploration, aiming to expand the resource base post-MRE. This development builds on the company’s recent de-risking diamond drilling program and the confirmation of high-grade continuity highlighted in the recent RC drilling results.

Advancing Critical Metals: Gallium and Rare Earth Elements

Beyond gold, Terrain is progressing its Larins Lane Gallium and Rare Earth Elements (REE) project with metallurgical studies underway as part of a Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) funded program. The work, conducted in partnership with Curtin University and RSC, focuses on optimising extraction techniques for gallium and REEs from the oxide-hosted regolith, a geological setting that could offer cost-effective processing advantages.

The Larins Lane project hosts a JORC Exploration Target covering just 5% of a 27 km² prospective area, with the company planning phased air-core drilling campaigns to expand the footprint. Gallium assays from prior drilling have revealed high-grade intersections up to 53.74 g/t Ga2O3 over significant widths, highlighting the project’s potential in a critical metal that is increasingly strategic amid global supply constraints, particularly given China’s dominance in gallium production.

Meanwhile, at the Lort River Rare Earth Elements Project, Terrain has completed a 33-hole, 901-metre air-core drilling program targeting a vast 66 km² regolith basin identified by airborne electromagnetic surveys. This basin correlates with previous high-grade REE intersections, including 8 metres at 4,037 ppm total rare earth oxides (TREO). Results are pending, but the program aims to validate and expand on the promising REE footprint in the Albany Fraser Belt, complementing Terrain’s broader critical minerals strategy. These efforts align with the company’s recent advancement in Lort River drilling.

Carlindie Lithium-Gold Project Soil Sampling Completed

In the lithium space, Terrain has wrapped up an ultra-low-cost soil sampling program over a 15-kilometre strike area at its Carlindie Project in the Pilbara, adjacent to Wildcat Resources’ Tabba Tabba lithium deposit and SQM’s Dom’s Hill project. The program collected 822 samples on a 400m x 400m grid, with assays now pending. The project targets lithium-bearing pegmatites hosted in felsic volcanic rocks, a model supported by recent discoveries at Wildcat’s Bolt Cutter Central prospect. This exploration approach challenges traditional assumptions that lithium mineralisation is confined to greenstone belts, potentially broadening the region’s lithium prospectivity.

Corporate and Market Engagement

On the corporate front, Terrain held a successful general meeting in January 2026, approving a $450,000 placement that has since been received. The company is currently in a trading halt pending a capital raising, with details to be announced once the halt is lifted. Terrain also maintained an active marketing presence, presenting at the 121 Conference in Cape Town and the RIU Explorers Conference in Fremantle, engaging industry and retail investors alike.

Terrain’s diversified portfolio spans gold, critical metals, and battery minerals, positioning it to capitalise on multiple commodity cycles. With a strong pipeline and ongoing exploration success, the company’s upcoming milestones, particularly the Lightning MRE and metallurgical results from Larins Lane, will be pivotal in shaping its near-term trajectory.

Bottom Line?

Terrain’s comprehensive drilling and metallurgical programs are positioning it for a resource upgrade and potential development, but pending assay releases and capital raising outcomes will be critical to watch.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the maiden Mineral Resource Estimate at Lightning confirm the scale and grade suggested by drilling?
  • How will metallurgical test results impact the commercial viability of the Larins Lane gallium and REE project?
  • What terms and scale will Terrain’s upcoming capital raising take, and how will it affect project funding?
