Capital Injection Targets Expedited Drilling at Music Well
Augustus Minerals (ASX:AUG) has secured $2.5 million in a placement led by Evolution Capital to accelerate its exploration agenda, chiefly focusing on a substantial Stage 2 drilling campaign at the Music Well project in Western Australia. The capital will fund a 2,300-metre drilling program at Clifton East, including 14 reverse circulation (RC) and 2 diamond holes scheduled to commence in early June. Additionally, the company plans a 500-metre RC program at the high-priority St Patrick’s Well target, reflecting a clear push to build on the momentum from earlier drilling efforts.
This fresh drilling initiative follows the completion of a 1,100-metre campaign at Clifton East earlier this year, where assay results are pending, positioning Augustus to rapidly advance its understanding of the project's gold and copper potential completed 1,100m RC drilling. The strategic focus on Music Well underscores its status as the company’s flagship asset, with over 1,200 square kilometres of tenements in a prolific gold region north of Leonora.
Broader Exploration Push Across WA and Papua New Guinea
Beyond Music Well, the placement proceeds will support a suite of exploration activities designed to convert new prospects into drill-ready targets. This includes 400 soil samples and 200 rock chip assays planned for emerging prospects within the project area. In Western Australia’s Gascoyne region, Augustus will undertake an electromagnetic (EM) survey over four drill targets at the Ti-Tree project, aiming to refine copper, gold, and platinum group element (PGE) prospects.
Meanwhile, in Papua New Guinea, fieldwork will commence to establish drill targets at the Vanapa River project, covering approximately 1,900 square kilometres in the Central Province. The company is also progressing the Mt Kare gold project, where funds will cover costs related to the granting of the exploration licence. These PNG projects represent a significant expansion of Augustus’s footprint and potential resource base.
Placement Structure and Shareholder Considerations
The placement involves issuing 62.5 million shares at $0.04 each, reflecting a modest 2.4% discount to the last closing price. Of these, 53 million shares will be issued under existing capacity rules, while approximately 9.5 million shares, including those allocated to directors and management, await shareholder approval. Each two shares come with one attaching option exercisable at $0.07, expiring in three years, providing investors with potential upside linked to future share price appreciation.
Executive Chairman Brian Rodan and General Manager Exploration Andrew Ford lead the company's exploration strategy, supported by a board with deep mining expertise. The capital raise arrives after a period of leadership transition and steady project advancement, including heritage approvals and permitting progress at Music Well and PNG projects heritage approval received. This funding boost aims to maintain exploration momentum amid a competitive junior mining sector.
Bottom Line?
The $2.5 million raise equips Augustus Minerals to accelerate drilling and exploration across multiple high-potential projects, but the success of these efforts hinges on upcoming assay results and licence approvals.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Stage 2 drilling at Music Well deliver significant assay results to justify further capital?
- How swiftly will shareholder approval be secured for the placement shares allocated to insiders?
- What impact will exploration progress in Papua New Guinea have on Augustus’s valuation and strategic positioning?
