Argent BioPharma Signs Five-Year Aquiol Licensing and Supply Deal with MGC Derma
Argent BioPharma has locked in a five-year exclusive licensing and supply deal with Ireland's MGC Derma to commercialise its Aquiol™ platform in dermatology cosmetics worldwide, marking a strategic pivot into skin health markets.
- Exclusive worldwide license for Aquiol™ in dermatology cosmetics
- Five-year agreement with fixed and revenue-linked royalties
- Expansion of drug delivery tech into dermocosmetics
- Production partnership with Slovenian firm NutraMind
- Collaboration provisions targeting US dermatology markets
Exclusive Licensing Deal Opens Dermatology Market
Argent BioPharma (ASX:RGT) has inked a long-term licensing and supply agreement with The Skin Health Institute Ltd, trading as MGC Derma, granting the Irish company exclusive worldwide rights to use Argent’s Aquiol™ platform for dermatology-focused cosmetic products. The five-year deal includes fixed monthly royalties of €3,000 plus a 5% revenue-linked royalty, positioning Argent to tap into the growing dermocosmetic sector beyond its traditional pharmaceutical focus.
This agreement follows MGC Derma’s earlier acquisition of the brand and establishes a framework covering licensing, manufacturing, supply, royalties, and commercial collaboration. It notably expands Argent’s proprietary drug delivery technologies, originally developed with partners like Graft Bio, into skin health applications through clinically tested formulations aimed at inflammation control and skin barrier repair.
Leveraging SNEEDS Technology for Skin Health
The Aquiol™ platform is built on Argent’s SNEEDS delivery system, designed to enhance bioavailability and topical delivery of larger particles via stable water-soluble formulations. This technology has been previously applied in pharmaceutical programmes such as CimetrA®, but the new deal marks a strategic pivot to dermatology and skin health markets, supported by clinical testing and a science-driven approach to skin barrier function.
Production and further formulation development will be managed through Argent’s Slovenian partners at NutraMind, leveraging the company’s integrated product development infrastructure and proprietary delivery systems. This operational setup aims to ensure scalable manufacturing and potential future expansion of the MGC Derma product range.
Strategic Growth Beyond Pharmaceuticals
Argent’s chairman Roby Zomer highlighted the deal as a reflection of the company’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams by extending its anti-inflammatory and immune modulation technologies into dermocosmetics. The MGC Derma platform is backed by an advisory network with deep expertise in dermatology and premium beauty, including former L’Oréal dermatologist Dr Michele Verschoore and ex-British Medical Association President Sir Pali Hungin, adding commercial credibility to the venture.
The agreement also includes collaboration clauses targeting commercial opportunities in the US dermatology and cosmetic markets, a key growth area for Argent as it builds on its neuro-immune pipeline and recent portfolio expansions. This move complements Argent’s recent activities, including its acquisition of CannPal Animal Therapeutics and advances in its neurological drug pipeline, reflecting a broader push into diversified healthcare sectors portfolio expansions with CannPal and acquisition of Phase 3 veterinary asset.
Bottom Line?
Argent’s Aquiol™ licensing deal signals a calculated expansion into dermocosmetics, but commercial success hinges on market uptake and US collaboration execution.
Questions in the middle?
- How quickly will MGC Derma launch new products leveraging Aquiol™?
- What scale of royalty revenue can Argent realistically expect from this deal?
- Will the US collaboration provisions translate into meaningful market penetration?
