Marvel Gold Launches 5,000m Drilling at Hanang Gold Project

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Marvel Gold has kicked off a 5,000-metre Reverse Circulation drilling campaign at its Hanang Gold Project in Tanzania, aiming to test high-priority structural gold targets with rapid PhotonAssay analysis.

  • 5,000m Phase One RC drilling underway at Hanang
  • Focus on Winston Extension and Sophia Prospect targets
  • PhotonAssay technology to speed assay turnaround
  • Drilling follows extensive geophysical and geochemical work
  • Program expected to last around 60 days

Drilling Begins at Underexplored Hanang Gold Project

Marvel Gold Limited (ASX:MVL) has commenced a significant exploration milestone with the start of a 5,000-metre Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling program at its 100%-owned Hanang Gold Project in Tanzania. This campaign represents the first modern drill test of key structural and geophysical targets in a historically underexplored part of the prolific Lake Victoria Gold Field.

The Phase One program prioritises the Winston Extension and Sophia Prospect, two targets identified through a combination of geochemical sampling, detailed structural interpretation, and a recently completed drone magnetic survey. The sequencing of drilling is designed to maximise operational efficiency and minimise rig move times, with the program expected to run for approximately 60 days subject to conditions.

Targeting a Significant Gold System with Advanced Assay Techniques

Marvel Gold is deploying PhotonAssay™ technology for sample analysis, a move aimed at accelerating assay turnaround times to enable rapid decision-making during the drill campaign. According to Executive Director Tim Strong, the targets are backed by strong geological, geochemical, and geophysical signatures, suggesting the potential for a significant gold system.

This drilling phase follows a systematic 12-month build-up involving geochemical analysis, geophysical surveying, structural interpretation, and permitting. The extensive drone magnetic survey, covering over 380 square kilometres, was a key step in refining target zones and is part of a broader strategic shift after the company’s exit from Mali exploration assets to focus on Tanzanian opportunities drone magnetic survey.

Strategic Positioning Within a Prolific Gold Region

Hanang sits on the Eastern Margin of the Lake Victoria Gold Field, home to some of Tanzania’s most productive mines, including Barrick Mining’s Geita and Bulyanhulu operations and Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga development project. The structural targets being drilled are associated with interpreted shear zones, structural splays, and magnetic anomalies thought to be conducive to gold mineralisation.

Marvel Gold’s move to focus on Hanang follows a series of exploration milestones, including the identification of multiple high-priority gold targets from initial drone magnetic survey data earlier this year new gold targets. The company’s commitment to fast-tracking exploration results through in-country PhotonAssay analysis is designed to maintain momentum as it seeks to define drill success and guide follow-up programs.

Bottom Line?

Marvel Gold’s drilling at Hanang marks a pivotal step into testing a promising gold system, but assay results will be critical to validate the project’s potential and inform next moves.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the Phase One drilling confirm significant gold mineralisation at Winston Extension and Sophia Prospect?
  • How quickly can PhotonAssay turnaround times influence follow-up drilling decisions?
  • What impact will drilling outcomes have on Marvel Gold’s strategic focus in Tanzania versus other regions?
