High-Grade Caesium Discovery Boosts Shaakichiuwaanaan Potential

PMET Resources (ASX:PMT) has struck a remarkable new caesium-rich pegmatite at its Shaakichiuwaanaan Property in Quebec, with the Cosma pegmatite delivering surface channel assays peaking at 16.43% Cs2O over 0.5 metres. This discovery lies about 22 kilometres west of the company’s cornerstone CV5 deposit, underscoring the scale and fertility of the lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) system in this underexplored region. The Cosma outcrop remains open in multiple directions, hinting at further upside potential along the highly prospective Mickel LCT pegmatite trend, now extended to roughly 10.5 kilometres.

Emerging Lithium Pegmatites Expand Resource Footprint

Alongside Cosma, PMET has identified the Felix spodumene pegmatite cluster near the western margins of Shaakichiuwaanaan, with outcrop samples grading up to 1.80% Li2O. Felix’s mineralised outcrops stretch over a 450-metre trend and sit just 550 metres northeast of the Drakkar pegmatite on the adjacent Pikwa Property, which itself hosts 2.45% Li2O spodumene mineralisation. Meanwhile, the Skald pegmatite on the Pontois Property, immediately adjacent to Pikwa, has returned 2.94% Li2O in outcrop samples, highlighting the broader district’s rich spodumene potential across more than 70 kilometres of greenstone belt controlled by PMET.

Pontax Property Yields Significant Caesium and Tantalum Grades

At the Pontax Property, the Overload showing has delivered an outcrop assay of 7.53% Cs2O and 3,768 ppm Ta2O5, collected from a pegmatite dyke over 50 metres in strike length and still open. This discovery adds to a multi-kilometre trend of well-mineralised LCT pegmatites at Pontax, including the Resisto showing, which boasts channel samples with up to 2,166 ppm tantalum over 12.1 metres. None of these Pontax showings have yet been drill tested, presenting a clear exploration runway for PMET in 2026.

Strategic Implications and Next Steps

These surface exploration successes come on the back of a recent lithium-only Feasibility Study for the CV5 pegmatite, which outlined a potential high-grade lithium project targeting approximately 800,000 tonnes per annum of spodumene concentrate. The new discoveries at Cosma, Felix, Skald, and Overload not only extend the known mineralised trends but also reinforce the prospectivity of PMET’s broader portfolio in Quebec’s Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. The company is gearing up for follow-up surface work in 2026, including an inaugural program at Pikwa and further exploration at Shaakichiuwaanaan and Pontax, aiming to delineate these promising discoveries further and feed into updated resource and feasibility assessments.

Executive Vice President Exploration Darren L. Smith emphasised the significance of these findings, noting the presence of a "large, highly-evolved, and fertile LCT pegmatite system" and the strategic value of expanding the Mickel Trend. With over 400 rock samples collected in 2025 and assays confirming substantial grades of lithium, caesium, and tantalum, PMET’s exploration momentum is poised to accelerate in the coming months.
