Drone Survey Sharpens Focus on Irvine's Hidden Structures

Aureka Limited (ASX:AKA) has deployed a cutting-edge drone magnetic survey across its flagship Irvine Gold Project in Victoria’s Stawell Corridor, delivering a level of geological detail unseen in previous regional datasets. Flying at a low altitude of approximately 50 metres with a tight 50-metre line spacing, the survey has exposed a suite of new priority targets defined by subtle magnetic anomalies and structural complexities.

This enhanced dataset contrasts sharply with the broader, coarser historic surveys from the late 1980s and early 1990s, enabling the exploration team to discern emerging second-order structures that could be critical conduits for gold mineralisation. Several of these targets, including the North Resolution anomaly located roughly 900 metres north of the current Resolution lode resource, are now under active diamond drilling programs designed to test for discovery-style mineralisation that could materially expand the current 304,000-ounce inferred JORC resource.

Drilling Targets and Structural Insights

The North Resolution target stands out due to its coincident magnetic low signature, geochemical anomalies, and a supporting Induced Polarization (IP) geophysical anomaly, suggesting a compelling exploration target beyond the known lodes. Other areas of interest include the vicinity of the historic EagleHawk mine and the underexplored New Eaglehawk Mines, where recent drilling results remain pending.

These efforts build upon Aureka’s broader strategy to unravel the complex structural architecture controlling mineralisation within the Irvine Project, which is hosted in a narrow Cambrian metamorphic belt known for tight folding and high-angle faulting. The new magnetic data have been processed with advanced techniques such as reduction to the pole, analytical signal, and tilt derivative filters, which sharpen the definition of geological boundaries and highlight subtle variations previously masked in legacy data.

Expertise Engaged to Unlock Multi-Million-Ounce Potential

Aureka has enlisted Dr Finbarr (Barry) Murphy, a geologist with four decades of experience and a track record of major discoveries including the 5.5 million-ounce Bankan Gold Project in Guinea, to lead detailed 3D inversion modelling and geological interpretation of the enhanced magnetic dataset. Dr Murphy’s involvement underscores the company’s commitment to refining its exploration targeting and accelerating the discovery process.

Managing Director James Gurry highlighted the immediate value of the enhanced magnetics data in guiding continuous diamond drilling, expressing optimism about the insights Dr Murphy’s expertise will bring. Exploration Manager Jozef Story noted the significant improvement in local-scale resolution and the identification of structural complexities beyond previously understood regional trends, which could underpin a step change in resource growth.

Irvine Project’s Strategic Position and Resource Base

Located just 16 kilometres south of the operating 5.3 million-ounce Stawell Gold Mine, the Irvine Project benefits from a well-endowed geological setting within Victoria’s prolific Stawell Gold Corridor. Since discovery, more than $15 million has been invested, culminating in a maiden JORC-compliant inferred resource of 304,000 ounces at 2.43 grams per tonne gold, alongside an exploration target of 280,000 to 420,000 ounces at 2 to 3 grams per tonne.

The project’s mineralisation is associated with steeply west-dipping shear zones along contacts between basalt and meta-sediments, with the new magnetic data illuminating structural controls that may extend mineralisation beyond current resource boundaries. This is particularly relevant in the 2,000-metre “gap” between the Resolution and Adventure lodes, where the high-resolution survey has enhanced drill targeting to explore underexplored zones.

With diamond drilling actively testing these fresh targets and expert geological interpretation underway, Aureka is positioning itself to potentially redefine the scale of its Victorian gold assets in a region with a rich history of high-grade production.
